HPFP Question

I found a good deal on a dorch stg1 pump and pulled the trigger (it's in the mail) Current set up is bm3 stg1. Eventually I plan on getting an AA catted DP and can go to bm3 stg 2+. In the meantime, should I bother installing the dorch pump and keep running bm3 stg1 or should I wait until I have a DP and install both simultaneously? Is there an upside or downside to installing the dorch now and continuing to run bm3 stg1?

I don’t believe there is much benefit until you either start increasing the ethanol blends and run the stage 2 plus or put a larger turbo on the car. Stage 2 93 Ron runs fine on mine with standard pump. If I move onto e30 I’ll change pump.

Agree, no need for an upgraded pump unless running E50 or an upgraded turbo.

Upgraded turbo is part of the longer term plan. I happened to find a good deal on a pump now. So the question is put it in now or wait?

If you plan on getting an upgraded turbo, go with the dorch stage 2 pump.

Not true. E30 on the stock pump is good for 435-440 WHP, where as upgraded pump on Stage 2 E30+ map is good for 475-480.

Idk what you are saying is not true. I'm saying you only need the upgraded pump if you want to run more E85, like a E50 mix.

It doesn't matter if you put it in now or wait. Would only help on a stock turbo if you want to run more E85.

If you are updating turbo i would return pump and buy the stage 2 avoid buying twice.

Lots of conflicting info here so I can speak from experience.

I installed my pump prior to upgrading the tune, because there was no stage 2+ tune available when I installed mine. It doesn't add power alone. However, if you run the stage 1 E30 tune, you'll likely get some timing corrections and everyone will comment on how you need to get the mix right to prevent fuel pump crashing. With an upgraded pump, you can run much more E without that risk. I ran upwards of E35 to correct timing without facing fuel pump crashing. So basically it is a safety measure to get the most out of a E30 OTS map and compensate for mixing with pump gas that isn't the best.

Kern and Stu wrapped it up nicely. no reason to wait for the DP (just select dorch in the HPFP dropdown in the map config after installing pump so it runs right) for the pump install. plus, if you are going larger turbo, you probably want the stage 2 since there is a significant jump in output, unless with the stage 1 it was so good a deal you wont lose money on reselling it later.
