High mileage & better equipment or Low mileage and poor equipment (same price)
Hello,
I'm a first-timer here, so I apologize if this topic has already been addressed. I would like to buy a BMW Z4 G29. I have 2 options for a similar price - 1) 20i, 2021, 19" wheels, 30000 km, sport package, automatic, heated steering wheel ... or 2) 30i, 2021, 81.000 km, extra equipment - head-up display, wireless mobile charging, apple car play, blind spot assist, adaptive chassis and sport differential, adaptive cruise control, cornering lights. Both cars have a BMW premium selection warranty for 2 years. Which one is the better choice ? Thank you for your opinions. Mike Last edited by Mike38; 04-25-2024 at 05:28 AM.. |

The high mileage car has attractive options, but 81kkm for a 2021 model seems high. What was the car used for? Long distance of lots of stop/start?
What annual mileage would you do before you thought the mileage was too high and you wanted to sell? I personally would choose the lower mileage. Apart from the engine, high mileage takes its toll on a lot of other parts which will show wear. Even getting in an out of the car often will wear the seat bolsters. I don't do high mileage and have owned a few sport cabrios which didn't have a lot of options and I drove the car to enjoy it. I didn't miss the options, except heated seats. |

He mentions they are the same price. Think thats why he’s wondering everyone’s opinion.

Would be very careful of the 81Kl 2021 car.
My 2020 is used almost daily with a lot of 400 mile round trips thrown in & has roughly half the mileage on it. Also not a fan of small engine stripped cars so would pass on both.

That's a difficult decision but I'd go for the lower mileage 20i. It can be tuned to get the same power as a 30i. My 30i doesn't have HUD, heated steering, or the Performance package (M brakes, adaptive chassis, sport differential). I'd love to have all of those but if I had to choose just one, it would be the heated steering that is included in that 20i. That said, if the 30i was lower mileage, I would choose the 30i but 50K+ miles is far too high for a '21 Z4 unless you have intimate knowledge of its history. Of course, the high mileage is the reason for the 30i's relatively low sales price but the 20i is arguably a better choice. In your situation, ideally I'd hold out for a lower mileage 30i with heated seats and steering.

There is certainly such a car on the market, but compared to the 20i, its price (with low mileage) will be €10-12,000 higher, which I'm not willing to give.

You are in the Czech Republic, what are the laws concerning a vehicle purchase made in another member nation of the EU? If you are allowed to do so you may wish to explore this as an approach instead of limiting yourself to just these two cars.

I think the "miles" are actually km, so 30Km=18k miles and 81km=49k miles.
That said, for 31,000 less miles and a heating steering wheel, you are "trading" them for: head-up display (nice), wireless mobile charging (meh), apple car play (plenty of other ways to get this), blind spot assist (very nice), adaptive chassis and sport differential (depends on your driving style), adaptive cruise control (meh, just makes me slow down all the time), cornering lights (nice but not essential). Me, personally, I'd rather have the car with 18,000 miles and then I can add some upgrades if I wanted. Lower maintenance fees in the short term too. One cannot take the miles off. And if those miles were hard driving without good maintenance, it could make a real difference in reliability. |
