Anyone try launch mode yet?

1200 mile break in period per the owners manual so maybe you haven't tried it yet but curious if you have your impressions. Manual says you can only do it every 5 minutes as puts premature wear on the parts....guess you can tell Im excited to get and drive this damn car! Sept delivery will be a loooooong wait!

Frankly, I have a hard time keeping the car steady with sport plus 0 to fast runs, I am a bit scared trying launch mode

Used launch control plenty of times. Loads of wheel spin 1st threw 2nd, but controlled. Definitely improved 0-60 times on dragy vs normal launch

Sport Mode, press ESC button, gear to left (sport), press brake pedal, then press accelerator all the way past first resistance point, let go of brake, hold on for dear life?

Sport+, sport shift (tilt left), press dsc (don’t hold), dash says “Sport+ Traction”

Brake to floor, then gas to floor, dash says “Launch Control Active” and then release brake. Car holds pretty straight so long as steering wheel stays straight. Don’t try to correct movements otherwise it will wiggle the back.

“Traction” can be activated in any of the 4 driving modes. It allows for a decent power slide when hooking a U-Turn if you modulate the gas (don’t mash, usually around half to 3/4 for controlled slide).

Comfort with Traction allows minimal wheel spin and minimal angle of slide.
Sport with Traction allows little more
Sport+ with Traction will allow about 10-15 degree of angle which is usually more than enough to cause an accident on the streets (which you use when wide open and no one else around for stupid fun).
Sport+ with DSC off (hold button) and sport shift (again tilt left) will allow Smokey burnout mode, as well as donuts.

If my mother in-law didn’t record the video incorrectly (portrait then switched to landscape while still recording) I’d post the burnout video

Is it possible to increase the RPM? It seems to want to launch at 2000 rpm, which seems too low.

What numbers are you seeing on Dragy with & without 1 foot roll out?

I don't remember what my stock numbers were off hand. I know that post tune/DP I was doing 4.6-4.7 0-60 because of all of the wheel spin. Never did a 1 foot roll out though.

Unfortunately, I recently did the responsible thing and traded in my z4 for a truck. Needed the extra space for the growing family and the x3 alone wasn't quite cutting it, but the wife loves the x3 so I gave up the z4. BM3 will be transferred to the x3 in the next couple of days and maybe the catless DP as well

Got a 2020 Sierra AT4 with the 6.2L so have been enjoying the high riding life for the past week

Looking into a project car though... Thinking an exocet since I still have the speed factor to satisfy what I'm missing from the z4

Gladly, my days of worrying about family capacity are over. The only way I can see myself part with the Z4 is by replacing it with a 992 Porsche Convertible.

Good luck with the truck! I did enjoy your Z4 forum comments!

With sport plus and traction the launch is good but if there is a bump in the road its a problem. DSC off to much wheel spin. So for me DSC off and feather throttle.

LC only works in sport+, shifter to the left (sport mode for transmission) and press the TC button (turns dynamic stability control off, Dynamic traction stays on). Brake to the floor, then gas to the floor, flag shows on the gauge cluster.

I hear what you're saying with leaving DSC on to try and launch. I got better launches doing it this way, or by short shifting 1st to second around 4k rpm.

thanks joe for the info. On a flat perfect road with DSC on the car launches the best. But here in NY with the Shitty roads every bump interferes with performance. Car stutters on every bump because DSC gets in the way. Using launch control at a red light on the fly not practical. So for Me DSC off and just try to control wheel spin myself. Run of the mill Mustangs, Challengers and camaros don't stand a chance. Of course Hellcats and Shelby Gt500 not included. I have Jb4 in my car.

You were doing 0-60 in 4.6-4.7 post tune with a downpipe? Whatever happened to stock times of 3.9? I know conditions vary, but this seems much slower than one would have thought.

3.8/3.9 is generally with a 1 foot rollout on dragy & the magazine tests. Pure standing start on Dragy I get 4.1 to 4.3. Car is somewhat traction limited in first & at the first to second shift.

Car is extremely consistent on the 0-60 run. A lower treadwear and/or wider tires would drop the time 2 or 3 tenths.
