At least Mercedes seems to think there is a market for a sporty luxury roadster

Looks like they are following BMW's lead. Think the back end looks Porsche like. Must be very heavy or they are lowballing the performance numbers. Good to see another soft top performance oriented convertible in the market

If you like BMWs and Porsches than it's a win, if you can stand a Mercedes that is.

Not a big fan of Mercedes and this opinion is coming after only a week after driving around one of their sedans. A lot of money for builds that feel cheap.
Their AMg models might be something to covet, but … otherwise…. Trash. |

This car would cost at least double to the Z4 M40i here in Thailand... and I am sure its not twice as good as a car....
But the interior do look great! |

I like it! The front 1/3 looks like a Mercedes and the rear 2/3 looks like a Porsche. It might be heavy, but it's an SL AMG so that's to be expected. The 2+2 is a little odd, but wouldn't be a deal breaker.

I beg to differ! I can fit 3 bottles of single malt comfortably in the netting behind the seats and still corner aggressively without spilling a drop.

My point is: we are discussing in this forum that there is no demand for a sporty convertible roadster, and that's why the Z4 is going to go away (for now).
Mercedes seems to think there is enough of a market for a luxury roadster (yes, yes, technically a 2+2, but do look at the overall proportions of the car). Maybe they are seeing an opportunity because others are leaving this market? Granted, the Mercedes is a lot more expensive than the Z4. |
