We already have some forum members with the 03/2024.xx iDrive version. How can one check if eye tracking lane change is available? Is there an option for it in the menu on your i7?

It’s an option on i5 in the driving assistant menu. I am assuming it’s same on i7 after the update

I just re-read the Spring 2024 update measures:

“Active Lane Change with eye activation will be added to the Highway Assistant on iX models starting with March 2024 production”

Not sure if this requires new hardware but it would seem that cars built after March with highway assistant being delivered now should have the eye activation feature.

hugo_nz as far as you know, are there any hardware differences between the 2024 and 2025 iX?

It seems weird that the 2024 BMW i5 and i7 can upgrade to get Auto Lane Change, but the 2024 iX cannot. What could be the major difference? Are there higher resolution cameras inside to watch your eyes?

Similarly, it's also is also strange to me that the 2024 BMW i7 can get GPS-based comfort access, and the iX can't.

No idea unfortunately. I had a quick look at parts lists the other day but the newer car I benchmarked mine against did not have anything new other than the new headunit for ID8.5

Could someone with 8.5 wisdom explain the active lane change feature?
I have a '24 iX 50 built in '24 that was upgraded to 8.5 3/24.xx by dealer.
I don't understand what the driver is confirming.

I find triggering the DAPP lane change feature using the turn signal stalk a bit hit or miss.

Active lane change with eye activation proactively scans the lanes to suggest changing it if the traffic is faster as compared to your current lane. To approve the suggestion, the driver glances at the mirror. Without this feature, you can manually initiate the lane change with half press on the turn signal stock.

Did your car gain that feature after the update? If so, can you pls share the menu screen with driving assistant options.

What month was your car built?

My iX m60 was built in November of 2023. I have ID 8.5 but my software is stuck at 11/2023.42 version and I don’t have eye activation lane feature. I am hoping it can come via OTA with 3/2024.xx version.

You have to be on an eligible road such as a divided highway with the assist mode (or assist plus) on with the green steering wheel icon visible. If you move the turn signal slightly, the car should do the lane change.

Hmm..that's curious, since the turn stalk works 100% for me. You just need to make sure 1) you have DAPP enabled, and 2) slight bump your stalk in either direction. It should always work. Have you noticed any conditions where it doesn't work? Are you alwayson a major highway, or are you trying on side roads/local streets?

Also if you have the BMW nav enabled, you'll find that Lane Change will trigger automatically when you need to cross multiple lanes to merge. This works even for 2022-2024 models with DAPP.

My difficulty using the turn signal stalk to initiate lane change I'm sure is my bad. For left turning it's 90% fine; for going right I tend to over or under nudge the stalk. Something I need to practice. Usually I'm only on divided highways with my wife & others in the car, which limits experimenting.
I'll get deeper into the lane change thang one day soon when I can get on the Thruway to play with it.
Day to day I'm fortunate to do my daily driving mostly on beautiful Catskill back roads.
I got the dealer 3/24 idrive update on April 1st to correct a fault in the original factory 8.5, which had received a glitchy update at Port of Newark to clear s stop order.

Hi Odyssius
Here are some screen shots from my '24 iX 50 with March 8.5. Please let me know if I can send you any other screens.
I'm a ways away from any divided highways, so I'll have to wait a couple of days to see if the eye lane activation is happening for me.
My car was built in Feb and 8.5 updated in early April.

Interesting: in my experience when I navigate the car prompts to initiate the lane change by tapping on the turn signal stock. It does not automatically initiate lane changes. Maybe there is some setting?

Thank you for sharing the screenshots. Unfortunately, it does not appear that active lane change assistant was updated via OTA for you and likely for the rest of ours iX MY2024 . If your car got it you would have seen an additional menu item which should read “Active Lane Assistant “

Me too. I have never experienced any automated lane changes, only the prompts as you mentioned.

If/when BMW adds this function to 2024 models I would expect some sort of announcement.

Thanks for making me aware of all this. I'm not generally big on system initiated actions. I'll post again if I figure out anything additional. Cheers!

I am on 11/2024.42 and have the auto lane change feature. when I move stalk a bit it works perfectly every time. Hasn’t failed once.

BMW sent me an e mail to speak to someone about the car. I spoke to the gentleman for 40 minutes and went over a few issues in the car. He wanted to know what issues I have. I mentioned I haven’t received the 3/2024 update yet and he said there was a hold on it to clear some problems.

This is the only setting needed. It should be inside the Driving->Assisted Driving Menu. All iX's across all model years with DAPP should support this. Here's a screenshot of the menu.

It only triggers when you have BMW nav enabled and need to cross multiple lanes on a divided highway. So it might be a rare situation for most folks.

Just be clear this "Auto" lane change is not the same as the "Active" lane change which is the subject of this thread. "Active" is coming only to 2025 iX's for now.

This looks like an iDrive 8 screen, and the options are different from the other screen posted above (lane change assistant vs automatic lane change).
