I priced the starter at a couple places and the cheapest I could find it for was $715.

That’s too bad. There are several options you could have done that’s much cheaper.

Original part number 12418691852 was replaced with current part number 12418671505. Additionally, you could use Toyota part number 28100-WAA01.

All of which show prices available in US for 380-600ish from several retailers.

Good point about shopping the Toyota parts. Others have discovered in the past that identical Supra parts are typically cheaper, hope I remember this when needing parts out of warranty.

99% of the parts are identical between platforms. Minor exceptions are exterior bits, some chassis reinforcement, and MMI due to idrive 6 vs 7.

It can take a little bit of digging if you don’t have access to Toyota parts diagrams. Some Toyota parts I’ve received are literally coming straight from bmw warehouses with no changes to the box other than a Toyota part # sticker slapped over the BMW one.

Kinda like a lamborghini... you can get audi parts for a fraction of the price. Get them from Lambo and find out they got an Audi sticker on them anyway.
