This is the key. When I ordered mine last year, I skipped 6 closer dealerships to the one I knew sold more cars (and wasn't going to charge me an ADM.) The place where I get mine serviced is great. We ordered our X5 from there, but most dealers get X5 allocations as it's the most popular model.

If you want to get an idea of dealer volume, just use the BMW web site and search new car inventory. If you follow a link to the dealer's website, that will usually show you the total number of cars in inventory. The one I use for service currently shows 41 vehicles in inventory. The one where I bought my Z4 has 223 vehicles in inventory.

I searched for Z4s, and BMW NA shows 5 dealers within 100 miles have a total of 8 Z4s in stock. All but 2 are s30i. The M40i's are autos.

I agree with your approach as the larger dealers might be the best way to go.

Also a nice road trip on the open road when picking up your new car is loads of fun, especially when you are in a roadster as it beats the hell out of driving 15 minutes from a dealer to your home.

I did PCD so I had a 600 mile drive home from Greer. Avoided the Interstate (mostly) and had a nice 3 day road trip out of it.

I had routine service done at my dealer, BMW of Owings Mills. I spoke with one of the salesman and he said the had an unclaimed Z4 MT coming in this week. I didn't inquire about color.

Interesting. Looks like an ///M on the front fender. Wonder it that is real or just a stock Euro picture?

It's a stock Euro photo. It doesn't match the specs; green over ivory vs green over cognac w/stitching. No side markers. Euro size front plate bracket. And ///M badge on side.
