Between this and the 8 series concept, seems like BMW has gone full blown Lexus design wise. Not a fan.
When car companies try to move metal by producing hollywood level teaser videos, seems to me that they are covering up for other shortcomings. BMW seems to be on a generational transition. Just not sure if it is for the better yet. Only time will tell. |

Stunning. I love the driver-focused interior, though in anything but a concept car it would be hated by the 99% of buyers that want one consistent seating color. I am having a hard time coming around to the quad headlight evocative halo pattern in a pair of triangular housings, even if the housings work perfectly with the car's lines.
It also looks like BMW is drifting from the core market of empty nesters and is going for the Steve Aoki crowd, LOL.

But maybe bmw figured out some kind of interesting roof folding construction that would allow it. This concept isnt even a convertibe I think. I dont think it has any roof mechanism In this concepts' form it would give an F type or amg gt roadster a run for their money

One of BMW's most iconic roadsters, the View post on imgur.com , had single headlamps. In fact, most BMWs made prior to the introduction of the New Class coupes had single headlamps. Many cars produced after that had single headlamps as well. The 02-series (e.g., 2002, 1600) and E21, for example, had single headlamps. The quad headlamps, as an iconic design element, can probably be attributed to the E9, and then the E30 3-series. The E9 is where people lusted after them, and the E30 is where BMW implanted them in the mainstream, cementing them as a "brand element". Modern BMW roadsters all trace their lineage back to the 507 Roadster (below), which had single headlamps. The E85 and E89 had quad lamps, but only the E89 had a headlamp design that really accentuated that fact. IMO, this design is a return to form, and I hope they stick with it. View post on imgur.com

I love it! Looks really great. The two tone interior is a neat little idea to showcase the driver focus.
I just wish they'd go the Lexus route and say "fuck it, we'll build a car that looks exactly like the concept!" For a car like the Z4 which isn't a high volume model they could easily do something daring. And sales would probably be even better. What we can see from the prototypes is that the exhausts are farther apart than on the concept. That's something I don't like that much. The back looks ace on the concept. They should have used this alignment for the production car. |

Looks cooler than I thought it would. But keep in mind it likely wont have those mirrors (it'll have typical regular old BMW fat mirrors like in a 3 series) and it likely wont have those roll hoops. Again it'll have typical wider fat production Z4 roll hoops. They'll need to pop up and have enough mass to handle a roll over. Some other stuff will probably be toned way down too.

Also not sure about that windshield frame.. i hope that stays... but that's probably a really expensive windshield to make full production and the structure looks too flimsy to handle a roll over... but i do hope it stays. its unique.
