In the past week I've seen two 718 Boxster Spyders, several E89s, E85s and Z3s, and an R8 Spyder.
But NO G29 Z4s in the last 500 miles of driving. Also as a new convertible owner, I'm noticing that many convertibles only ever seem to be driven with the top up (except Miatas - they usually are driven top down). Even on really nice weather days. |

Usually it’s a simple question: is it raining? Yes, top up. No, top down. Temperature doesn’t play into it… A lot of people, though, do give the reason that it’s too sunny - understandable to be fair. Sun can be a problem, especially for white balding heads. So, I don’t judge. |

I've been driving top up since 1996. Lots of reasons. Most days I forget putting it down is even possible. This is my 6th convertible. All chosen for other reasons. Especially this one.

BMW doesn’t make any other 2 seat vehicles (well, excepting BMW Motorrad), so that might be one reason. Resale on convertibles is probably better in FL than elsewhere too. Hmm, I can’t come up with any other reasons to have a vert unless it’s to take the top off.

I’ve been taking the Z4 out for various errands the past few days and using that as an excuse to drive extra miles while out on those errands. Today I clocked ~50 miles running 2 local errands that would normally entail 15 miles of driving in the truck. And it was great! This evening I took a long, meandering route home and having the top down was fabulous especially in the shaded air under the tree canopy. I can’t be bothered to take my motorcycle out for short rides, but it’s really fun and convenient to get air in the Z4. And there’s a windbreaker, a sweatshirt, gloves and a couple different hats stashed in a bag in the trunk. As you say, as long as it’s not raining, the top goes down. It’s funny, because I’d always heard that you inherit your hair from your mother’s genes. And my mother’s father had a full head of hair when he died. There’s a photo of my dad, and his father (my granddad), and his father (my great granddad) and me as a baby. Foreshadowing, I guess, because my Dad is the only person in the photo who has all his hair (and he still has it too at nearly 80). As for me, I have taken to keeping it very short (Wahl #2 or #1, and sometimes no guard) and wearing a hat when it’s sunny. Quote:

Have always had very long hair. Not the only roof reason but high on that list. |

I swear.. G29 owners in my city are SO BORING! I've seen now a little more than a handful, but only 2 of these clowns have actually waved back or stopped to chat a bit.
