One of the other forum members in CA had dates that matched mine (with similar replies from Genius) and gave me the name Eridanus Leader, which hit the port in CA yesterday. I'm fairly confident my car is on that ship and will hopefully get confirmation this week.

I'm not complaining, the lack of communication is pretty similar to what I have had with other brands. Just sharing the current experience for others in a similar situation.

That doesn’t sound too dissimilar to my July conversations and it was not on a boat. I hope they found a way to get yours on one!!

My sales rep finally confrmed that it went "in transit 31 July" in his e-mail on 22 Aug after he and Genius said it was still at the factory / port in early August. The ship it would have been on docked in CA yesterday, hoping for confirmation at some point this week, but who knows. It flipped back to "at port" yesterday, which I hope means at delivery port, not shipping port.

The last car I ordered (not BMW) took three months from factory to dealer and sales admitted they had zero info until it cleared the port in New Jersey and was on a truck to CA.

That brand's dealers only know when a car's shipped from the port because they get the invoice to pay for it. Or at least they used to. Now I think the money for the car is just deducted out of the dealer's bank account.

We may not only be ultimately on the same ship but we have the same car. Did you get the wireless charging? I did but I don't know why. I've never had an automotive wireless charger that did anything other than heat up the phone.

Yep, you nailed it. The second that car was out of Port of New Jersey I got an e-mail with the invoice, wiring instructions and a DocuSign. I actually wish BMW would do the same for my Z4. It makes picking the car up easy and fun, with no paperwork.

Nice! No... I’ve never had a wireless car charger that worked properly.

I also skipped on all the driving assist stuff (just not needed for this type of car), and passed on the Premium Package/HUD because I wear polarized sunglasses most of the time.

I own Maui Jims which are fabulous sunglasses that are only made with polarized lenses but I also love using my HUD which is a feature I would not sacrifice having when I purchased a new car today.

The work around is to purchase a pair of "Drivers" that are made in Italy with non-polarized top of the line Corning mineral glass from Serengeti who offers these optical quality sunglasses in several of their frames. Serengeti sunglasses are also very popular with pilots who need non-polarized lenses in order to read their instruments. The majority of their sunglass lineup are polarized but several of their frames do offer you this "Drivers" option. Here is the link to their non-polarized frames.

I thought the same til I actually got the car and the blind spot due to the top is terrible. I can’t see a thing when I turn my head. I wish I got the assist package. I did get the charging and it’s useless. I have to remove my phone case to use it.

I am SO glad I got the assist package for the exact same reason. I've known the "right" way to aim my side mirrors to address blinds spots for decades. This is the first car that I've actually done it--out of absolute necessity.

CA had talked me into the wireless charger. It DOES work with my case.. not as well as my old windshield suction phone holder/wireless charger did, but it seems like it ALMOST keeps up with the drain of waze+android auto. Haven't had enough time to really test this... I'd probably do it again, mostly because of the awkward placement of the usb port. I've been playing with right angle connectors. This is the best I've managed (obv not for the phone):

Just got my dealer call! My car arrived to Brunswick Monday night and they said it is at the processing center and I should be prepared to pick it up Friday or Saturday. Unfortunately or fortunately, I’m leaving town for Irish at Aggies game so I’m hoping they’re open on Labor Day. Otherwise, I guess I’ll have to go next Tuesday.

According to internet sources once a car commences build it only takes 35 hours to complete so the updates on the app lag significantly behind actual progress.

Patience is correct. Mine went from scheduled for production to production begins in 12 days. Looks like from previous posts that real patience begins after it is built waiting on a ship
