Is there anything similar to or better for than The Wire? I don't think I have found anything since...
Power is okay, Breaking Bad and, couldn't get into Narcos. Also, any recommendations for a funny sit com? Something like Mike and Molly? |

I was just going to say The Chi on Showtime is dragging me in, reminds me of The Wire. On season 2 episode 3 after tonight. Some heavy shit and funny at times. Story evolves slow but grabs you. |

Otherwise, most comedies suffer the same fate - start off funny and then spiral, usually when they have the characters get into relationships or take plots too far. For new / newish shows we kinda like The Kids Are Alright surprisingly funny on ABC) and I'm Sorry (tryTV). Better Things on FX also pretty good. Last Man Standing older and still ok, but not great. Modern Family and Life in Pieces have run their course to me, but earlier seasons were pretty good.

I actually got hooked, it's light and funny. It's a show that doesn't take it's self too seriously. |

Late to the party, as ever, but I've just watched S1E1 of Westworld and although I struggled at the start, by the end of the episode I felt I'd just seen something pretty special; the very last moment was superb. I almost don't want to carry on in case it disappoints.

“The Good Place” starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. Show surprised the heck out of me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Don’t want to spoil the plot, so I’ll just say it’s a comedy about the afterlife.

Give Banshee (Cinemax) a try. While not exactly similar to the Wire, certainly makes for riveting entertainment.

Another Banshee watcher! I stumbled across Banshee during a holiday trip to the in-laws several years ago. What an insanely violent and entertaining show.

Brutal at times and the series finale is very satisfying. I watched it every week when it was on. I might have to rerun it marathon style. |

Done that on a few occasions; however, the final season remains my favorite one. Slightly different twist than the other seasons, but thought it was excellent - and let’s not forget Eliza Dushku.

One more show that came to mind: Quarry (also on Cinemax).
From the same producer/director who did Banshee, but takes place in the 70’s about a Vietnam Vet who gets involved with......, well, I don’t want to give away too much now. |

I was very interested until I found out it’s only one season. The synopsis sounds like my kind of show though. If I like it I’ll be annoyed there’s no second season. Still might check it out though. Thanks for the recommendation.

It was kind of quirky and glum at some points, but I really enjoyed it. But I also think Steve Coogan is hysterical and I have a serious crush on Kathryn Hahn. |
