I suspect most LEO assume bikes don't have radar detectors so they are pretty free to use it. I got tagged on the Richard Russell Scenic Highway by a stationary LEO using radar. Bikers are a cash cow for the local municipalities....

With respect to the highways, I don't see using it there as 10-15 over is plenty fast; it's just the fun roads where 10-15 over might be a little unreasonable.

In my M3, it was a real and present danger to get a seriously expensive ticket in a very short period of time. I remember coming down from Clayton hitting off a quick 1/4 from a stop light, looking down at speeds we won’t say, but then Waze warned me, slowed quickly and then stopped for gas. A couple on a motorcycle stopped also and asked “how did you know there was a state trooper?” Yeah…

The Z, it’s more enjoying speeds at a more reasonable pace

I use an older Escort RedLine 0100025-1 Radar Detector. I tried the newer oled screen detectors but the display gets washed out in the sun. I hang it on window not hard wired. I too worry about theft so I pull down when parked with top down.

I wouldn’t want to make them feel bad for overspending on a 4 cylinder … but rarely see Boxsters & caymans because they’re all in warehouses gathering dust so people can resell them later

I ended up going with a Uniden R4. From my research, it appears to have one of the best ranges and its the new tech of the R8 without the arrows, high price and larger foot print. Mine was just $350 from Amazon, which was a pretty good deal I thought.

I've ordered the mirror tap from Amazon as well as a permanent windshield mount from ebay. I just plan on using it on long trips and in the N.GA, TN, NC mountains, so hopefully this will help the fun factor and reduce the stress a bit as well.

Vortex Radar on YT was very helpful in my research.

Well, I think the arrows are helpful, but size is a key issue for me and the non-arrow units are smaller. Also, I will predominately use this on 2 lane back roads here in the N GA/NC/TN mountains where LEOs like to sit and tag bikers so I don't see the arrows adding that much value for my particular use-case.
