Playing devil's advocate, but he could also be saying this so the 4-cylinder model doesn't tank as far in the meantime.

The general mood on the new C63 on the main MB forum/board is rather dark btw. |

The V8 in the previous two generations was so all-encompassing and generally awesome, that to make such a radical change while still calling it a "C63" has put a lot of people off. From the reviews, it seems difficult to understand the logic and what the benefit of this complicated-but-heavy drivetrain is. |

The only thing Benz will learn is the same any company will learn, is when their sales for the car crashes and it hits their wallet. Asking around dealerships in my area, the general consensus at the moment is the interest for the new C63 is extremely low. We will see in a few months if that holds up.
At least M kept the S68 V8 and the S58 I6. Audi RS division said they won't go below a V6 for their RS4/RS5 cars. If Audi and BMW can make it work, I am pretty sure Benz, with all of their stupid F1 marketing can make their V8 work via hybrid. They just don't want to. Benz is making the same mistake other companies have done in recent years, believing straight speed equals excitement.

Throttle House just did reviews of the new C class. They said the C63 was pretty terrible, and Thomas described the C43 as “the worst car I’ve driven all year.” Mercedes seems to have lost the plot. However, I was able to check out the C43 in person. You’ll be too distracted by all of the glossy black plastic interior trim to pay attention to how bad it drives.
