Gran Turismo® 6: Toyota Supra Preview

Just as the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo is a preview of the up-coming Mecedes-Benz SLC AMG (C190), so is the Toyota Vision GT a preview of the up-coming Toyota Supra. Can't wait for more.

BMW M Vision Gran Turismo is also be unveiled quite soon, we'll then find out if these are the two sports cars that result from the BMW/Toyota collaboration.

WHo here remembers the golden days of the RX-7, Supra Turbo, 300ZX Twin Turbo, 3000GT VR-4, and the NSX? I'd take any of those cars today if I could find an unmolested one with under 50k miles and a decent price...

That was the height of the import scene. Great cars.

Isn't there a rumor that a Supra Concept might show up at the Detroit Auto Show.

It might just be this GT6 concept that will show up, just as the Mercedes Concept did at LA. In any case it can only be a Supra preview, as the Supra is the highest priority together with hydrogen fuel cell car.

Rumours in the motoring world tend to stir up the emotions, especially when it is about the revival of an icon such as the Toyota Supra.

Since the FT-HS concept was unveiled at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, petrolheads have been wishing and waiting on news that this concept would be the successor to the Supra, of which production ceased in 1998. Now, however, it seems that Toyota will bring a Supra concept to the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, with the concept being relatively similar to a planned production version.

Adding fuel to the flames in June of this year, Toyota chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada said that he liked the idea of a new Supra. And further stoking the fires at the Tokyo Motor Show, a few high-level Toyota execs admitted that the company plans to “shock the world with a Supra concept car”.

Why Toyota would do this now is simple: rival Japanese brand Honda has been receiving plenty of attention for its upcoming NSX sportscar.

The motoring world is in for a treat from the East: prepare for a Samurai war.

The Toyota is GT6 and the Concept to be revealed next week is very likely to be the car developed in collaboration with BMW and be the Supra successor. The name of this car is likely to be "Mirai", which means future in Japanese. This name was trademarked:http://www.trademarkia.com/toyota-mirai-86131881.html

A new teaser of an unknown car is floating around the web. It could be the new Toyota Mirai.

Before the excitement begins...

This is NOT the BMW-Toyota collaboration.

Cannot wait for this thing. My wish list:

- Keep it under 3,200 pounds
- RWD
- DCT and manual options only
- 5.0 NA V8 from the RC-F, but tuned for an extra 750RPM (and a flat-plane crank -- a boy can dream)
- Maybe even the V10 from LFA! (A boy can have a wet dream)

Love everything else about it. If this thing comes in for under six figures, it's my next car. See you in 24 months.

That concept looks pretty good. Love the looks and actually that F1 inspired stub nose works here. If Toyota decides to put this into production lets see how much they'll butcher this ala FRS concept to production.

Won't, happen. As you see the car is designed to have an I6, also said in interviews. Following the same path as BMW and Mercedes, an I6 would be feasible based on Toyota's new 2.0l I4 Turbo. If it will happen is unlikely. RC-F V8 could be possible, but this car would not be affordable anymore. As for the V10, it will never happen, that engine is more expensive than a Ferrari engine. The V10 might be found in the LFA II. Now the LFA X Code will run @ VLN 2014, the V10 now has a displacement of 5.3l compared to normal 4.8l.

That is good news. It means Toyota won't get BMW engines.

I also read that it will be a hybrid power plant, which is unfortunate.

What's the LFA X Code and what's VLN 2014? I hadn't realized that Toyota is making a successor the LFA at all.
