Anyone rocking optics on a pistol? How you like it?
I have a (1 or 3.25 moa can't remember which) RMR on my FNX-45. Not really a fan. It's something you have to shoot with a lot to get used to. For most people anyway. When you have a RDS on a rifle, your eye is typically 4 to 10 inches away and the reflective glass is 2 or 3 times the size of the RMR which on a pistol is more like 20" away from your eye.

I believe you have to build up a muscle memory to get the red dot back into your sight picture quickly on follow up shots. Conversely, the front sight is always easy to see and track. So yeah, you can see the front sight through the RMR, but now you have to focus on the red dot and your target. Bang, now you change your focus on the front sight in order to find the red dot quickly and once you do, you have to transition to the red dot and your target.

For me personally, i'm much more proficient on follow up shots and quick target acquisition with standard sights. The RMR is cool, fun to shoot with and likely a useful tool with enough practice. But i've been kicking the idea of selling it around.

A gun that points naturally in your hand is 90% of what you need in a self defense situation. For me, the most is my sig 229. Everyones built different so find what works for you.

Rmr doesn't work for everyone. It is something that can fail. It is slower on the draw to first shot and follow up shots for most. It is more accurate at distance though.

+1 same here with the 229

A pistol with doctor sight or other red dot aim looks riced, but thats my opinion.

I have that exact setup. I haven't had a chance to build up the proficiency since it's new and I've been busy. I shot it a few times though and I've had parallax issues. Did you experience anything like that?

I love the setup but like you said, it takes time to be an expert with it.

I've read some great reviews about that gun and sight. I've been very tempted to get one but I'm deciding between it and another rifle.

Sights on handguns are great for when you've already drawn your weapon. Target acquisition takes a bit more time for me with optics than the good old sights. I think I just need to get used to it.

It's instant backup. What happens if you run out of ammo and a zombie is running at you...., then what? Tactical rocks only work on humans.

Nice choice. With that quality firearm, you can make it your only AR.

The only thing you need to do is get back up iron sights and start shooting. Take an carbine class at your local range to get familiar with it and get the fundamentals of shooting it down.

If you want to and seeing as you went with DD as your first AR, you can likely afford one, a quality Red Dot Sight would be in order.

Aimpoint micro 2moa is a very robust small red dot that fits with the light weight theme of your M4v7. You could also go with the Magpul MBUS sights to keep with the light weight theme.

I have a stupid question. At least I'm fairly certain it is stupid.

Silencers are not legal up here, so I've only had the opportunity to shoot a suppressed 1911 in the States, and that was only once. So I'm not that familiar with them.

But as I understand it, the basic principles of a silencer are a set of baffles / ports within the silencer tube which allows the gas to dissipate / expand into, which reduces the sound the gun makes. In a nutshell.

Idle curiousity here - if you were to wrap / encase a muzzle brake in steel / etc - would it then basically serve the same function as a suppressor?

In practice, yes, who would do this, but just idle curiosity on my part. I'm not planning on doing any such thing to my own.

Sure sure, making your own isn't legal either. I can just buy one here in wa with exemption think it's 200 for tag or something.

Try threading on a 2 liter full of Mt dew. One time use and you will wet t shirt contest every time

Or, if you want a ghetto suppressor, you can buy the oil filter adapter. See them all the time at the local gun shows.

You actually need a stamp for them but I think people just sell them and hope the owner takes care of the paperwork.
