BMW has just released the following statement announcing a world premiere for Monterey car week on August 23. Although not mentioned by name, based on Z4 prototype stage and what we know about its start of production (beginning end of this year), it is surely the all-new production BMW Z4 (G29) which we'll be seeing debut at Monterey. Monterey is also where the BMW Z4 Concept debuted last year.

Quote:
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – July 25, 2018… BMW is pleased to invite all accredited media to a press conference for the World Premiere of an all-new BMW production car on Thursday August 23rd at 10:15 am at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Reviewing Stand on the 18th green of The Lodge at Pebble Beach Golf Course. At the press conference, BMW will also present the North American Premiere of the all new BMW M850i Coupe and the North American Premiere of the highly acclaimed BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe first shown at the Geneva Auto Show in May 2018. Speakers will include Bernhard Kuhnt, President & CEO BMW of North America and BMW Design Head Jozef Kaban.

The identity of the World Premiere model will be revealed closer to the time of the press conference. Suffice it to say that this new model will certainly be an emotional addition to the BMW range.

This time last year BMW presented the Concept 8 Series Coupe on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – a preview of a forthcoming BMW model line. This year BMW reveals the first production model of the 8 Series: The 2019 BMW M850i. In addition, BMW will present yet another new concept car which again previews a future BMW 8 Series model: The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe.

“The BMW 8 Series will take over as the new flagship model of the BMW line-up and, as such, combines unsurpassed sportiness and elegance,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe offers a look ahead to the most exotic and alluring variant of the new BMW 8 Series.”

The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is more than simply a luxury sports car with four doors. It symbolizes a new and unique understanding of luxury. “The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is designed to stir things up, to polarize – it should move you emotionally,” explains Domagoj Dukec, Vice President Design BMW M and BMW i. “With this car we want to reach people who are looking for something special and who want to stand out from the crowd. Here, BMW M is unmistakably taking luxury out of its comfort zone.” Like the BMW Concept 8 Series before it, the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe shows off BMW’s new design language, headlined by expressive surfacing that accentuates the car’s dynamism more vividly than before through its bodywork. A small number of precise character lines underline the graphic arrangement of the surfaces.

The striking exterior of the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe combines the core values of BMW M with elegance and luxury to create a new and captivating form, and reveals a new and exciting facet of BMW M. The new model sees the BMW Group looking ahead to the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and BMW M8 Gran Coupe, which will be presented during the course of 2019 and round off the BMW 8 Series family.

BMW will again participate in the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this year with a number of race cars that celebrate The Ultimate Driving Machine.

The new Z4 should be a real competitor for the Boxster this time!

How do we know it's not the new X7 (G07)? When is that model revealed? The Z4 is not an all new model production. X7 makes sense for a US reveal.

Should
Would
Could

We'll see about that !

The Boxster is a car you don't simply swing at with little ease.

I chuckled at news a couple years ago saying BMW no longer believes there's a market for such roadsters.

Sure the market has contracted, but the biggest problem was that the E89 Z4 was bloated, numb, and overpriced. Maybe if they had built a simple little sports car [like the Z3 and first iteration of the Z4] they wouldn't have had such poor sales.

I'll be in Monterey on the 25th for the Exotics on Cannery row car show, wonder if there will be a way to see it?

Also, the Supra is aimed at competing with the 718, so look to that if you want a Porsche Cayman competitor. Supra was supposed to be a lot faster around a certain track or two than the Z4.

A real shame since the E89 was a handsome car.
They made a mistake by keeping the M Division away from the E89 (sans racing).
Every previous Z that M touched became instant classics.

Just let the M Division bless this next one and let the results do the talking.

I don't even care that the ///M division didn't get a crack at it. That car was flawed going all the way back to the drawing boards in Munich. Management purposely wanted to build an overpriced "grand tourer" type car. They literally ditched their loyal roadster customers.

The E89 was the first Bimmer to start the trend of numb isolating cars. The F01, F10, and F30 came right after which were all very un-BMW-like to put it kindly. All the SUVs got neutered as well. I'll only give the 7er a pass because of it's segment.

The design of the new BMWs ends up being so anti-climatic. Early on, it looks like it will be something special, but in the end, the changes are subtle. Not necessarily a bad thing since many BMWs are good looking, but still.

Dont see Monterrey as a launching pad for SUVs much, if you look at the type of things they reveal there

It's a high end SUV so that reasoning may not apply.

Yawn. Unless this is blessed with some of the 228/230i brilliance, a manual transmission and a serious diet over the E89 generation it will just be another meh car.

first, BMW did not satey true to the concept which was cool, new, different. Loved the original design with two nice headrests and two tone (which was stunning!)
Secondly, they decided to go only for condom top and no hard top.
Maybe a targa style will make it more interesting.
Anyway, like many said, the design is a wash wash between Fiat and Jaguar, condom in the top, nothing new.

They can keep it....
