No manual either!
Give it time...After a few years in the market, they will make an ///M and optional MT. It will most likely have a tuned version of the b58 or S58. The reason why they never announce it at the start is because they want to see how well the base models sell. If people knew that there is going to be a Z4M, they will not sell the M40i as much. Still a sceptic? Think of how the M2 came about (and how the 1M was born).
I'm not necessarily sure I follow your logic. I bought a m240i "base model" after knowing the M2 exists. There are always multiple niches that will need filling. Why not do as Porsche has done with the latest GT3 and offer both a manual and auto to increase sales and hype right from the start? What BMW is doing is giving their bean counters a chance to say, "I told you so," once the sales figures come in and they are not as strong as they could have been. Just reduces the odds of us getting another roadster after this one potentially fails. They did the same thing with wagons. Abandoned all marketing and sales push for them and what do you know, now they "aren't selling" and we will not be getting a G21 here in the States. I was never going to buy a Z4 roadster, but I was going to buy a G21. Point being, BMW seems to be setting themselves up lately to lose sales one way or another. If you are truly in the business of sales, the attitude should never be "ya win some ya lose some." The goal should be to gain sales whenever, wherever possible. Yes, resources and cost always come into play, but it's a manual transmission in a soft top roadster we are talking about. It should not be a multi-million dollar R&D effort by this point. Just my 2 cents.
Dude, the m240i is just a m235i with the b58 replacing the phased out n55 engine. When the m235i came out, there were still only speculations and hope for an M2. By the time the m2 came out the m240i just replaced the 235i.
And please stop winging about a wagon version. The reason why there are few wagons is they are selling more suv (that's where the market is). X1/2/3/4/5/6/7 sales is sky high compared to a few tosses on the forum who want a wagon.

I do not believe you have made a point yet. You are making no sense, sir.

To each his or her own I suppose. Not that it matters to anyone but me, but I like the looks of this car. Front end, lights, the entire package. Like it all.

Hopefully my 6'5" frame will fit in it better than the Z's I have had the opportunity to drive so far.

BMW claims an extra .9" of seat rail travel. Maybe they've picked up a little bit more elsewhere, too.

That's partly due to the red color and the blacked out trim of that "first edition" or whatever they're calling it. The "normal" version of the car looks much, much better. This one, for example, is stunning.

I agree, this looks better.

Agree it looks better in that monochromatic silver trim. Also I saw elsewhere a picture of the series car with a front bumper more similar to the concept without that weird shaped elements in the intakes.
Still it should have one pedal drive to really thrill me, if you know what I mean. I couldn't stand the fact, that a toy looking i3 could blow me easy on the first 100m. Since I know it can
