Chicago hotel recommendations?

As the title states, we’ll most likely be needing a room for this coming Saturday night in the Windy City. Going to a birthday party for very distant relatives and don’t feel like going. However, if we don’t go, I’m the bad guy as I would rather spend the weekend shining UncleWede’s beautiful head but it is what it is. Therefore for you Chicago locals, please recommend a hotel in an area where crime is mostly a non factor.

If it means paying $300/night for a room, so be it. Don’t mind if it’s valet, taking the CTS so don’t care if a 18 year old zit face is behind the wheel for a few minutes. Been to the Chicago area once but that was back in 2015 for a few days and it was near the Naval base and never got to see the city. Plan is to do some sightseeing driving around Sunday morning and then head back to Indiana.

Just stay on the North side. River North area would be fine. Loop would also be fine but will be boring/quiet on the weekend depending on where you stay.

Well, if Chauvin gets anything less than life, there will be civil unrest nationwide which in turn will give me the perfect excuse to stay home. Trust me, don’t want to go!

That would be a wise choice.

I was going to recommend the Sheraton on North Water Street right at the River, but it appears to be closed. Too bad, that was a nice place. Maybe they're refurbishing it?

I have stayed at the Millenium Knickerbocker. Nice hotel, good location for the hot spots. Shows about $98/night which is WAYYYY less than what I paid back in 2010. If I remember correctly, its attached to a mall too right near Navy Pier.

I think I stayed at the Intercontinental Magnificent Mile also.

The Kimpton hotels here are really nice, and close to most of the stuff you'd want to see. I'd maybe avoid there Gray, as it's closer to the business area, but the Monaco is in a great spot.

IMHO the Peninsula is on of the best hotels in Chicago if not the country. Love staying here.

This is an awesome hotel, and you're correct in that it is consistently voted one of the best hotels in the country, not just Chicago. I've always enjoyed the bar here as well, pre-covid.

We always stay at London House. Good rooms, views and location. The rooftop bar is nice but very crowded afternoon/night (pre-covid).

Park at millenniumgarages grant park.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We’ve decided on the Residence Inn Dowtown/River North.

City view with kitchenette so was wondering the best place to get pizza after the party nearby the hotel?

Sooo many options for pizza. Lou Malnati's, Pizzaria Uno, and Gino's East are amongst the 3 usual/standard recommended deep dish places. The latter two arent too far from your hotel. Pizzaria Due was always busy anytime I was near there but it doesn't look like they're open right now(?). There are plenty of smaller pizza places around your hotel to try as well. Or say 'f' it and go grab some Portillo's.

As for crime, just stay out of the South and West sides. When you hear about Chicago on the news, it's mostly due to those areas. Mostly. If you want a self guided tour spanning the spectrum of the city, just take a drive up/down Halsted (just don't start too far South).

I’ll pretend all those red dots are pizzeria locations.
