Die Cast Models
I have a 1:18 scale models of all the BMWs that I have owned since 2001. So, I decided to build one of the Z4 that I have on order. The only thing available was one from Norev. It is a San Francisco red with tan interior and black package (wheels, grilles, front vents).
Here is the red model. I am turning it into Frozen Grey, black interior, cerium trim and cerium wheels. Pictures of modified model to come. Here is a teaser:

I don't really have a good paint for cerium yet, which is what is holding up my project. If I find one, I will let you know so you can do your own.

Completion is getting closer. Basically, just all logos and front grills to go. More pictures when done.

Finally finished the 1:18 conversion of San Francisco Red model to Frozen Grey model. I am fairly happy with the results.

That grey is not even close to the right color. It is way too dark. When I did mine, I used actual BMW Frozen Grey II spray paint.

Models of my Z4 and Z3
I found this model of my new Z4 in 1/34 on eBay for about $10...
And here is my 22 year old model for my old Z3 at 1/18... Note, I don't think the beast came with either model. |

I am real tempted to get the white one but I think its about 8-10 inches long and thats pretty big. There are several in the 1:24 to 1:30 ish range which seem like a better size to me
Can some one with the 1:18 post the length of the model?

Note that there does seem to be a big price difference. Looking on ebay, I found the 1/34 model for around $10 and the 1/18 models are from $100 to $200. Detail is still reasonably nice on the 1/34. The doors open and the media screen is painted/decaled and even underside is molded nicely. However, the top doesn't come down and the engine compartment doesn't open.
