From past experience, how long does it take from the time the car goes into production until it arrives stateside? My dealer is a bit unsure about it, anywhere from 2 to 4 months.... It is scheduled for production in week 16 (April 18-24).

Mine took 5 months, but that was during the parts shortages and it also took a longer trip than you would need to take. It went through the Panama Canal and then back to Colorado.

Is the Panama Canal thing generally for west coast only? car is coming from Austria so I assume east coast it just comes across the Atlantic.

Once production starts, it goes quick. Less than a week for me from production starts status to ready to transport. The biggest holdup has been the "at the port status". Mine has been sitting there since 3/3. I think that will be the biggest factor on timelines. I've seen some people say there's was only at the port for a few days.

FWIW, I placed my order on 1/28, so will be 7 weeks on Saturday.

That sounds reasonable. It can vary significantly. My production date was 6/29/22, took delivery in St. Louis on 8/27/22.

For another data point, mine has been sitting at the port since 2/27. Shifted to "In Transit" on 3/8, but then back to "At the Port" on 3/11.

Have you called a BMW genius? This could actually be a good sign for you. It switches back to "at port" from "in transit" when it reaches the US port of entry. If you call them, they may be able to tell you if that is the case.

It is. I would have thought a train from the east coast or from the Gulf would have been faster and less costly. I'm not sure were the cut-off is, but I know all BMWs coming to Denver come through the Canal except those built in South Carolina, which come by train. Yours will be dropped off at a port on the east coast.

I did call, as I figured it would be on a ship. BMW Genius told me that a ship "had not been assigned yet". Seemed a bit odd to me...

I actually called them today too, just to see if they could give me any more information since my car has been sitting at the port for almost two weeks.

Was told it’s due to the digital key issue that has been mentioned. All he could tell me was a work order was issued to address the problem, but no eta. Assuming others are in the same position.

My Z4 M40i was built 7/22. Charging pad was not available and the NFC functionality was deleted as well. I was told by the Genius, that they were tied together. No charging pad, no NFC reader.

For me, having the key fob in my pocket and hitting the start button is easy enough.

Yes, at that time you had to order the wireless charging in order to get the digital key. I'm surprised it wasn't available for yours. My 30i production date was 6/29/22 and I have both.
