I don’t mind a tall lever, I own a GR Yaris and the spacing from wheel to gear is pretty spot on.
A manual in a sports car needs to be more mechanical in feel, someone at bmw need a to spend time in an mx5. Quote:

Hoping foremost for a manual. The wording of "Redesigned with M power..." is a bit loose and can still mean it's just the B58.
It's been a few years since they've offered a top down manual car. Can't wait to see the LCI! |

Good question. I've always attributed the variation in how a manual transmission feels to the shifter linkage, clutch weight & engagement, and the rest to the mysterious internal workings of manual transmissions.
Having watched a few YT videos on the subject, it seems that all manuals are synchromesh these days. And most transmission gears are helically cut (with some exceptions), further easing engagement and reducing noise. Differences in transmission feel relating to engagement, and not related to the shift linkage or clutch action, probably have to do with the distance between gears (the distance the synchronizers have to move to engage a gear), the time required to fully synchronize gears, and the shifting force needed to complete synchronization. It seems likely that transmissions designed for higher torque loads require more force to engage and complete synchronization compared to lower torque transmissions simply by virtue of the fact that the components in the heavy duty transmission are larger, have more mass, and there's also more surface area friction between mating surfaces to be overcome before the gear shift synchronization completes? Probably lots of additional implementation specific details, including the size & materials used in the synchros themselves matter too. I'm sure someone else can provide a better technical explanation. It occurs to me that asking why some manual transmission shift well and others don't is like asking why BMW electric steering is so often criticized and Porsche's is not. (I did read/hear a theory once - no idea if it's true) Quote:

Always liked that color. If I remember correctly, they discontinued it after LCI.

Some folks are starting to get their MT manual Supras and it looks like they come with much nicer strut bars from the factory. Will be interesting to see if this carries over to the Z4.

Indeed. There were folks on the Supra forum joking it was photoshopped and what-not but it does appear Toyota upgraded those bars as stock.

I guess we’re all agreed then that Thundernight Metallic is the way to go.
(isn’t there also an individual paint choice option on that color card?) |

I'd love to go with that Thundernight. color. I think a frozen version of that would be the best. White or Lava interior... NOICE.

I was hoping they would bring back their Frozen Orange launch color that never shipped to the US as that would be an awesome color to drive! Frozen Orange with an ivory interior would be a head turner! |

This frozen orange would be my number one pick. Always loved this color and was a damn shame they never brought this to the US. The way BMW does colors is so messed up imo.

Agreed. Frozen orange looks great, and was never available in the US. I’d be ok with another frozen color too, like blue or black. Personally, I’m a little sick of FG II - it’s like I see a Z4 in that color practically every day, or at least as often as I visit the garage.
