I never said Adaptive would be as economical as Eco Pro. I said Adaptive would give you mileage close to Eco Pro but it didn't limit you when you needed to really accelerate, especially when passing as it utilizes all of the driving modes.

Gotcha! I love adaptive for that reason- the only benefit from eco is coasting. Which will be solved when they give me a manual!

Here are some YouTube videos that help to explain Adaptive mode.

Neither of those videos are accurate in practice in my experience. The car doesn’t go into eco pro in any settings while in adaptive, and it doesn’t adapt to your driving style. I’ve never seen it adjust dampers, at least as far as I can tell. Or coast.

I wish bmw would make it clear what real changes in settings are happening while in adaptive.

For example which suspension setting am I in real time?

Perhaps since it’s so ambiguous they decided to delete adaptive altogether.

I have tried it at length on both the X5 (with air) and the Z.

Sorry, if that is the case, in practice I’ve never seen or experienced adaptive mode adjusting the eco A/C, coasting, or adjusting the throttle inputs. This looks like a mapping of cables. This just doesn’t make sense.

When you are in Adaptive mode you aren’t using the Eco mode A/C setting.

BMW says:

However when "ADAPTIVE" mode is active, no changes that restrict comfort (seat heating, A/C settings etc.) are made in the event of switching to "ECO PRO" mode.

Thing I like is,

BMW says:

With the navigation system the mode makes use of available map data and optimizes "ADAPTIVE" mode by predicative functions such early reaction to bends, junctions & road types

This nice on the interstate especially in SC where heading toward Charleston sections of the road get crappy.

For something that seems so cool (Adaptive mode), it gets very little coverage....this is the best description I've seen (thanks BMWgirlFL). I think it's pretty innovative that the car should use GPS to adjust it for any upcoming driving situation changes. I wonder why BMW hasn't made a bigger deal of this, do all manufacturers have this by now perhaps?

Agree. First I heard of one of these systems was about 5/6 years ago. Vid was showing the car (Big Bucks up GT not BMW) using GPS to go as far as predicting required gear changes in European mountain driving.

Wish I could remember the brand but my old fart mind is out to lunch. Can still visualize part of the video with the car turning right shifting gears on a switchback & starting to climb a steep hill.

I think the lack a of clear understanding of how this works is part of the reason they got rid of it.

Per the link below "One caveat for the Model Year 2023: The Adaptive driving mode was dropped. The explanation? It wasn’t often used by Z4 customers nor it excelled at either end of the driving spectrum."

Leads me to believe people didn't know what it was, so never really used it.

Unfortunately for me I have a basic Z4, no adaptive suspension (my only options are the vernasca leather and moonlight top). If I ever get a new one (w/manual only) I will get adaptive (if still offered???)

You'll get the suspension, just not the drive mode (assuming you get an M40i or the handling package on the 30i).

You’re pointing out something much more obvious.

My point was driving downhill is required to achieve that level of efficiency.
