One tip to everyone, the best time to do the software upgrade is overnight. Yesterday I made the mistake of parking at Nordstrom Rack with my wife, activated the parking brake and we went inside to shop for about 15-20 minutes. When we came out the car would not start because the software upgrade was still in progress. We had to wait another 15 minutes or so before the the upgrade was completed.

Also the AC wasn't cooling properly when I first started the car and it only started cooling when I turned on the ignition for my next trip.

I'm still having issues getting it to upgrade, The permissions are enabled on my phone, tried parking brake and nothing. I get the this message, see pic. it is the same message I got for the last upgrade. The dealer even had trouble getting the previous upgrade to load. Any other suggestions?

After getting the above message it took about 30 minutes parked outside of my garage. I set the parking brake and waited. After it is complete start the car turn off the car and start it again. Westside had issues with his A/C, I had issues with my alarm. Starting the car turning it off and starting it again fixed the issue.

Did the engine need to be running or is it a matter of simply having the Z4 parked, outside, with engine off and parking brake on? I was able to get the software transferred to the car but it now says it will tell me when it's ready to be installed. Not sure what it's waiting for but I would like to help facilitate the initiation of the installation.

I’m still waiting for mine to start as well, tried everything stated here. Last update, I had to take it to the dealer, may have to do the same for this update….

Same. I locked the car, also. The screen said you could do that, so I did so, even though it was parked in the garage, top up.

Instructions say car needs to be outside with a clear view of sky. to avoid tree cover.

Did it update while in garage?

I tried to do it in the parking lot and it wouldnt complete no matter what I tried. The dealer did it for me during my oil service and it installed fine they said. I see several improvements in how Car Play works so far.

It’s funny you posted this. I have 11/22 on the car I picked up Friday and I’ve noticed CarPlay is a little wonky. On my phone under the CarPlay settings it shows the car twice. It seems the first profile/listing is the one the car is connecting too, because it I rearrange the apps on that one that’s how they appear in the car. But if I delete the second listing, the phone won’t connect at all.

I’ve also had to delete everything and re-pair it once, as the car told me there was an issue and asked me to re-pair.

Not sure if it’s the car or my phone. Running iOS 16.4.1(a) on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. This never happened on my previous car though.

I didn’t see that in the instructions. Did it in the closed garage.

I called the BMW Genius, they said there is nothing they can do and that I have to take it to the Dealer to have them upgrade it. How come Tesla can do this so efficiently and effectively??

Thanks for the info. I have tried everything that is mentioned in the owners manual. There is quite a list. The only thing it mentions that I'm not sure about is that the battery has to be producing at a specific level of output. My battery is almost four years old so it might be the reason. You have a good point: Tesla seems to have figured out how to do this. By the way, the owners manual says it needs connectivity to a cellular system but does not specify which one. That being said, I parked my Z4 on a flat parking lot with no cars about two blocks away from very congested (suggesting it had multiple services) cell tower. That did not make a difference. Yes, the windows were up, it was in park, the lights were turned off, etc., etc. Looks like I will be taking it into the dealer.

The BMW Genius only mentioned two requirements, car must be on a flat surface and parking brake on.

My car is a very early 2019 model, I wonder if it has something to do with 3G vs 5G, not sure what type of radio (Tx/Rx) is installed

I finally got the 11/2022.60 update to apply. I parked outside with parking brake applied. I did have an interruption with the MyBMW app logging out while uploading to the Z4. After I logged back in, it finished the upload and completed the update.

Ensure "Local Network" is enabled in the MyBMW app settings.

When I look at the settings in my iPhone 12 Pro the screen looks different from yours. I am running the phone on iOS version 16.4.1 (a).

Mine looks the same as yours. Not sure why the app would need access to photos. Seems odd.
