We have a 2011 335i coupe, as well as a 09 MDX. Love them both, however the MDX is a pig in the fuel department. I guess that's what you pay for a heavy SUV with 300hp.

He finally pulled up next to me and I chickened out and let go of the gas.

So Anyone drive an Acura MDX? I'm curious how well these cars handle.
I suspect that you are not nearly as good of a driver as you think you are.

Well, IMHO, it handles decent, but nowhere near great. We have a '07 as our family vehicle & as my wife's DD. But i've been driving an M3 for over 9 yrs now(E46 for 8 and now E92 for 1.5), so i am very biased. In any serious driving situation, no way it could keep up
But, on a different note, to the guy that says DO NOT GET ONE, i beg to differ. We've had this car for over 4 yrs now and hadn't had a single issue!

Loool I never said I'm that good of a driver. Like I said, I chickened out. I wasn't even in the right gear because I wasn't expecting the MDX.

It wasn't exactly a race either, we were probably going close to the speed limit but this is a steep hill where most people go way below the limit.

I was mostly curious about how well the MDX drives, I don't even like SUVs but I may be in the market for one in about two years so I thought it was worthy asking. There is no way I would get rid of the bimmer tho.

It looks like he wants to convey that the MDX seems to have a higher comfort level at speed than his car.

Exactly right!

My wife just traded hers in on an X5 and it handled ok but it was nothing special. IF the SH-AWD actually did anything, you had to be in a mode that would scare the shit out of your passengers to notice. Who buys one to do that?!?!

She had a first year 2007 (new model) and it was less than spectacular. Lots of little electrical gremlins and the worst leather I've ever seen in a modern car in terms of wear.

As mentioned in another post. The CX9 is hands down the best in its class as far as value. If Mazda had better option packages and a better local dealer we would probably have one. I think it's better than the MDX.

3) stupider

Depending on how fast you two were going, that is. Your car might be faster on paper and on a controlled road course, but if you've got a guy behind you that knows how to drive or simply does not give a fuck, he will keep up.

Quick MDX performance stats:
0-60: 8.1s
1/4: 16s @ 88.9
60-0: 134ft
Slalom: 62.6
Skidpad: 0.82g

Those numbers are terrible compared to a 335i's.

This is a surprising bit of info. I have never diven either vehicle but I would have thought it was the other way around.

let's just say it's one highly subjective opinion which I don't think anyone else would share if you asked people to push both vehicles through some twisties

Where did you get your stats? They seem a little off. These are from MotorTrend
Curb weight (f/r dist) 4600 lb (56/44%)
0-60 mph 7.1 sec
Quarter mile 15.5 sec @ 90.5 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph 132 ft
Lateral acceleration 0.81 g (avg)
MT Figure Eight 27.5 sec @ 0.64 g (avg)

It looks like you posted results from the revised MDX that received powertrain upgrades. Without knowing what specific model year the MDX was that was following the OP, it could be either set of numbers.

My mom has an 08' MDX and it handles great, esp for the crappy weather we get here in WA.. The AWD is awesome. It has a lot more torque than our old rx300.

what you think is "gunning it" is actually pretty slow. Not trying to be a duche but I was like you too. A lot of cars can keep up on turns unless you're at the limit. Which you might think you are but trust me you're not.

this reminded me of the time i was side by side with a Bentley Continental and I was driving an Accord. We both entered the turn at a 100mph (im an idiot) and we were side by side the whole time. At the end of the long bend i looked over and saw two persian dudes with their jaws dropped... u mad?

Edit: just read your other posts. If you're not even going over the speed limit then you can't possibly be pushing your car you granny

It's not all about how well the car handles, it's also about how the driver handles the car. I've driven on twisties and have seen trucks keeping pace with me. Granted I wasn't going fast but on some turns I couldn't help but think "if I was driving a truck I wouldn't have gone through that turn that quick." Some people are just used to driving in mountain roads and they are confident their vehicles can handle the corners.

I have 08 MDX as a family hauler, thing is great for a family car and handles the best in its class and price range. Bought it brand new base model for $37K absolutely no issues what so ever and that SH-AWD is awesome.
