Acura NSX first drive impressions are in...

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...-drive-review/

Well....they're not exactly glowing. There's others aside from the MT review but those are easy enough to find elsewhere.

I figured this car would be a viable alternative to the i8, looks like that will not be the case.

3,800lbs! All that technology and it still weighs 3,800lbs!
People were going crazy that the Z/28 weighed that much, only difference, the Z/28 is half the price.

Not too terribly impressed for $150K. I'd more than likely polish my pennies and get a McLaren 570S before I'd get this.

No thanks. The design was out in 2012 and it's still not for sale yet, car seems dated already and for the money just doesn't perform. Japanese need to stay away from supercar attempts

That's 200 off the porsche 918 weight, portly, but I'd expect a hybrid drive to be a little up there. What SHOULD happen is that it makes up for that weight penalty by being able to CATAPULT out of turns due to storing the braking energy prior to the turn. If that is not happening, then the weight is obviously not worth it, but I'm ok with a hybrid drive being a little porkier if it uses it correctly. I believe this is the future as far as sports cars, in terms of using what would otherwise be wasted energy.

I don't think I could be any less interested in this car, what a snoozer.

I guess I just remember the old days of decimating these things in my Supra, and thinking what a joke they were. This "new" NSX already looks dated and bland, what a disaster.

If they only quote a 0-60 it means it's not that fast once you get past the advantage from the AWD / electric motors / launch software. Will still be faster than a Tesla though since it has an actual gearbox.

I was invited to Sonoma last week and got a chance to drive the car for the better part of a day. I liked it more on the street than on the track, but the car is absolutely stunning to look at. The one I drove was on Michelins, seen below.

Although it seems to be a disappointment, I don't think it is in the same class as the i8. The i8, in my eyes anyway, isn't BMW's version of a super car or a track oriented sports car. The NSX even with its flaws is closer to that goal and more competing with cars like the MB GT, the 911 GT3, etc. I don't think many people think of the i8 in the same light.

I agree, if you truly wanted to explore the limits of the i8 you would probably have to spec out a separate set of wheels and tires, not to mention the power disadvantage.....

The NSX look promising to me....it brings something new to the current class of competitors......based on mfr estimates its on par with the competition in terms of 0-60. Have you seen the FE figures 19/26 city/hwy, not too bad for machine with 500+hp.....just hope Honda reads hears these first impressions and tweaks accordingly......everyday super-car sounds good in the think tank but at this price point buyers typically have multiple cars that meet multiple needs....so make it an animal that could be streetable an not the other way around.....

And if you want one, you will be waiting two years now.

We had deposits for several at our dealership. Honda told us we are not getting allotted ANY.

Only certain dealerships will be allotted NSX's. Primarily dealerships who have won the dealership of distinction award this year and in the past years, those who sell the most units, and those that are in areas where there are actual buyers for a car like the NSX.

Our dealership is "not important enough" to be allocated any. I believe we had five people put a deposit down for one, none of them are getting one.

Basically, the first two years of cars are only going to the biggest dealerships, and to the most important people.

If your name is not Leno or Seinfeld, you will not be able to buy one.

And with that, fat chance in hell getting one at list price. The dealers that do get them will probably tack on an extra $20k+ for the privilege.

That's all it sounds like to me. All the mags have stated that the biggest problem with the car is the tires, but the optional Michelins make the car a real performer. I would say if they can make the track mode a little more suitable for street use they will have a big winner. And I don't understand the people saying it doesn't stack up to it's competition, did those people even read the second half of the reviews. Almost all of them say it's an absolute rocket, it just takes some time to figure out what the car is about, and some tires.

"Track mode is where the NSX fully reveals itself as a McLaren 570S hunter, especially if you’re driving on the optional (but short-lived) Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The rabid acceleration out of corners is the most noticeable benefit of the hybrid system, as the front motors help to tug the 1725kg car up to silly speeds." - Autocar

I mean come on, a British mag comparing this thing to the UK's most hyped new supercar? How could you possibly think the NSX doesn't perform.

Actually, the C&D test of the 918 had it at 3,724lbs. So 76lbs more. Half a passenger. And at 1/5 the cost.

The Z/28 is also stripped out with few luxuries, RWD, not as fast, not a hybrid...
