Is there ever not an M, sooner or later? The better question is how long you'd be willing to wait for it.

Watch for it when Z4 sales need fluffing up in a couple of years.

typically BMW also comes out with a LCI power bump and some styling modifications. Mid life cycle, cars also get updated idrive. So that's something to consider, but you'll have to wait about 3-4 years for the LCI.

And there is no guarantee that a LCI comes ... or that the car will be in production that long.

When I returned my prior Z4 I decided against getting another one because the new one was ‘right around the corner’... here we are, almost 4 years later.

Doubt there will ever be an M model, best bet is M40i. Seems like the only reason we're actually getting a Z4 is because Toyota wanted to partner and pay for a good portion of it, if it weren't for them, I don't know if BMW would have resurrected the Z4.

Sales numbers will be awful for the Z4 because you can get the inline 6 and all the other BMW design attributes and hardware goodies in the Toyota for thousands less. And in Canada, the 6 cylinder Z4 will be around $100K after sales tax is applied, so it will sell like hairspray at a bald guy convention up here.

I'd wait a bit on getting the new Z. I just got a new G05 X5 with the new iDrive, Dig Dash, and Auto safety stuff the new Z4 will have. I can say it's very buggy. Check out the G05 forum. Yes, different cars by shape, but electronically will be very similar. I'd give BMW a year to work this stuff out. The new drive by wire steering makes you feel completely detached from the road. I don't mind it as much in an SUV, but will drive me crazy with a sports car. I'd like to replace my 2004 Z4 with a new one, but based on my G05 I'm waiting at least a year.

Just my $0.02
