what's in the Kurd genocide for Trump?

Something from Erdogan, something from Putin, both? The media portrays him as acting on impulse, but this is no impulse. The political cost will be steep, so I'm thinking the reward must be in the millions.

I suspect the win for Edrogen is delecting his countries attention away from their current economic crisis. Typical strongman tactic.

Trump withdrawing from Syria BUT expanding our presence in Saudi Arabia is not getting us out of the middle east.

The win for Trump? We may never know.........unless we could listen in on his phone call.

maybe they'll open that special vault...

But Trump's handler is more careful than that. This won't be part of any official call.

By that logic I suppose the US should station troops in Quebec the next time French-Canadians want to secede from Canada. Because ya know, they deserve protection by the US..

There is no "win" in this. It's the degree of losing.

Turkey was probably going to start an escalation with or without our troops there and Trump decided he doesn't want to be part of it.

I am curious if Trump will at least punish them with sanctions. He has let Turkey get away with a lot over the past couple years, not sure why.

If you haven't seen the news the YPG and the Syrian government have struck a deal to fight the Turks together and Syrian government forces are already moving towards the border. Syria recovers its annexed lands and the board gets reset to what it was before the disastrous Arab Spring. Its almost as if the presence of US forces in the region were actually a hindrance to a settlement in the region...

Haha what a mess. Turkey is now using the refugees as leverage against the Europeans. If they sanction Turkey they will have 3.6 million new 'friends' coming their way.

The only winner here is Putin. Funny how that happens.

How did Putin gain anything that he did not have before? Syria has always been strongly allied with Russia. Nothing has changed. Syria regains its territory and hopefully some semblance of normalcy can return to the region (once the Turks aggression is resolved) plus the added bonus that no more US soldiers have to die in some dust bowl.

Respectfully disagree. I don't think there's any way in hell Turkey "intentionally"* attacks positions where US troops are known to be stationed.

* The mortar(artillery?) attack from last week at least has plausible deniability.

The impulsiveness of Trumps decision plus the immediate timing of Turkeys attack seems odd to me. They might not have attacked positions with U.S. troops but they could have come close.

Turkey is a garbage country, but this is a mess the EU created. The EU said they would pay 6bn to Turkey, but AFAIK they only paid 1bn. I'd tell the EU to bugger off as well.

The EU is not interested in actually solving problems. They need these problems to accumulate power.

Well, it's time to call their bluff. We all have an aging population and for once we could benefit from the old lessons and teach our people about cultures instead of just having wars with them. Turkey holding refugees over us is not an option anymore.

I'd also like to say fuck our politicians. They have known from the start what trump is and if they still manage to be grasping their pearls over this move, we seriously need new allies and new politicians. Fuck this shit, the kurds kept the ISIS at bay, this was the cheapest war we didn't fuck up and then it turns out we let the usa do what ever on a whim.

Good job, thanks russia for making us sheps and thanks to our coward politicians for enabling it.

I don't beleive he meant the actual country, he is most likely referring to the current leadership. At least that is how I took it.
