Self driving Aptiv BMWs in Las Vegas (video) - on Lyft

Thoughts, impressions on the technology?

Saw this posted - short news video (less driving): https://www.today.com/video/take-a-r...as-71473221611

Found a longer, better video (more driving, autonomous driving starts at 1:50):

The iDrive display is replaced with a real-time monitor showing the internal state of the self-driving system. Interestingly, you can also see what appears to be a red Nevada autonomous vehicle license plate, with the first video's 540i having AV0077, and the second video parking behind AV102.

I was actually close to taking this last time in Las Vegas (had the ride requested and coming in Lyft app), but due to pickup location issues and delays, we ended up missing out. Back then, I think there were fewer vehicles too so you would only sometimes see self-driving available in the app.

Thanks for sharing. I love to drive and used to think that autonomous cars would be the death of me. I drive an average of 40,000 miles a year and every day drivers are getting worse. I cannot wait for this to become reality and available to the public at large.

While it will give normal folks the chance to experience autonomy in its fledgling stages, Aptiv gets something out of it, too.

I wonder how it senses lanes since vegas seems to only use reflectors without paint.
