If someone asked me which was the newer model I couldn't tell ya. That's a stunning shade of blue too!
Thank you! She's coming along, and gets quite a lot of compliments even from BMW owners lol. But yeah the nice thing is the 2021 doesn't make mine look dated in the slightest, I still think it looks like a fresh, futuristic design!

Have you looked at GS-F's? Would be far slower than your F80 of course, but I think they would make cool dailys. I just think there's too much overlap to my E92 M3.

just can't do a car that's over 2 tons. It sounds like the new IS is actually going to be lighter than the outgoing model which was around the same as the f80's weight at 3500 ish.

I've always driven cars that are ~3500 lbs or less (3-series, Lexus IS, etc.). Anything heavier and I can tell immediately.

Most recently I've driven a buddy's C43 coupe extensively and it feels like you're sitting inside an incredibly heavy bathtub. It is not nimble at all.

Well it' not bad looking...I guess.

But using the same old V6 is just laziness by Lexus.

If they are going to save this lineup, they need to drop the IS500 fast. Enthusiasts are losing their patience with Lexus. I am one of them. Already looking at C63's and M4's.

My wife who loves her 2013 IS 350 AWD and is not a fan of BMW. Someone who values reliability more.

One thing i cannot get over is the incredibly slow (for todays standards at least) automatic tranny, was watching a pov video of the new IS last night, it felt like i was watching a 90's automatic pontiac shifting, literally disgustingly slow... and toyota claims they "reprogramed" the transmission to be sportier lol.

I'm sure regular folk think the tranny is mint, but anyone that likes driving spiritedly would strongly disagree.

Look at 6:35 of the video, listen to the paddle click and notice just how slow it is to shift.

Is Lexus considered a competitor anymore? I don't even think so. Who buys a Lexus over a 3 series? Back when the IS lineup looked stylish and had an ok motor it may have been and that was a long time ago.

I sold my E93 to buy my IS. This is my 2nd IS. Reliability was the biggest factor. I have better things to do on the weekends than spend it in my garage turning wrenches. I will say that my 2011 IS350 (non-F) was a much nicer and faster car than the current IS350 F. In order to make this thing run semi-close to how my 2011 ran, sport+ mode is required; and it still isn't as fast as the 2011 was. I will say that aside from brakes, tires and oil changes, the car is pretty much service free. It is definitely not an enthusiasts car, unless you're a Lexus (read slow) enthusiast.

With this being said, I do like my car, just not in love with it. I still get compliments on it daily.

Anyone looking for reliable, lower initial price, lower long term cost and is fine with the decent handling and acceleration. My wife would be much better off in the IS over the 3 series and if she was interested in both I would try to steer her to the IS. She would never find out which handles best at the limit or which is fastest to 60 or the 1/4 mile.

Why would someone that isn't an enthusiast buy a 3 series?

What most on this site forget is everyone isn't looking for the fastest or best handling sedan.

Drive both to 150k miles or many years of ownership and I bet the long term costs and headaches of owning the Lexus are far smaller.

^This exactly, Lexus has their customers, there is a reason why many do return to the brand, because it is brainless to maintain and own. May sound boring, but majority of car buyers do not see driving as fun, but rather a necessity so they aren't walking or taking a bus.

There is also the other end, of people who buys German only for the badge, those are likely the lease people who can return the car to the dealer when they are done with appearing rich

When I was younger, single and made more money I would have probably agreed with you. Like a number of people have mentioned; they're ok with a "boring" car if that means less headaches, and or they don't want to go broke playing fake rich.

As a previous owner of an IS350, the IS350 been to the dealership 10x more than my M3. 4 recalls, 5 bulletin repairs, numerous warranty work. Mind you, some of these were major bulletin repairs. Cam rattle which required new cam gears. Airbag harness was too short causing airbag to not activate (required airbag harness to be completely rewired to the ECU).

My 2018 M3 I had for 3 years with 25k miles hasn't even been to the dealership once. Many other people with F80 M3 on this forum are sharing the same sentiment about the reliability of the F80 M3.
