The manufacturer wanted a Jaw dropping design ... they succeeded
The grill is actually looking as if a jaw is dropping

BMW owners making fun of large grille's......alright. Pot, this is Kettle, do you copy?

I read somewhere that Toyota's grille designs were created to resemble samurai masks.

In Z4/Supra partnership, it was reported that BMW was surprised at the precision of Toyota's quality control as many BMW parts had to be sent back to BMW for "fixing." Conversely, Toyota was surprised by BMW's emphasis on R&D & performance. So the idea that Toyota/Lexus are said to be generally more reliable and BMW better performing, isn't a coincidence.

Re JD Power Dependability Studies (and Consumer Reports Surveys as well), I think what's more revealing isn't that Lexus is on top, but the consistency at which they're at the top. I can't recall over the past 10+ years to find Lexus not at #1 or #2. I do agree that the 3 Series has been sufficiently reliable (since the E46 era, IMO) to the point where it's not really an issue anymore and you don't have to sacrifice reliability for performance (or vice versa).

There were rumors afoot last year, that after the collaboration with BMW and Toyota on the Supra was going to yield another collaboration on the IS, which apparently did not come to fruition. I was extremely excited about my two favorite manufacturers combining to build my favorite car. Was really hoping for a twin-turbo I-6 powerplant to an IS.

Let's just hope the IS500 isn't the same disappointment the 2021 IS is going to be.

If true that’s cool.

It’s cooler than the Koala nose on the new G8x

Last I heard the plan is to use an I6 from Mazda that will be developed sometime around 2022-23

BMWs always hold up just fine during their warranty period.

My IS is a 2012 and besides a couple dead batteries in -10 degree weather it has never needed unscheduled maintenance. Can't say that about a 2012 BMW.

Official: The 2021 Lexus IS Facelift Won’t Be Coming To Western Europe

Quote:
Updated with styling and technical revisions for the new model year, the 2021 Lexus IS was officially presented back in June.

It should have started arriving at dealers in Europe, but it hasn’t, and it won’t, as CarScoops has learned that the Japanese brand’s rival to the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Jaguar XE and Mercedes-Benz C-Class won’t be sold in Western Europe.

The information has been confirmed by a Lexus spokesperson, who told us the following: “The new IS will not come to Western Europe (including the UK)”.

The representative did not go into specifics, but the decision is likely related to the poor sales figures of the sports sedan, as only 3,282 cars were sold in the Old Continent last year, a significant drop over the 5,413 in 2018 and 5,649 the year before, according to CarSalesBase. By comparison, Lexus shifted 14,920 examples in 2019, 22,927 in 2018 and 26,482 in 2017 in the United States.

While those living in Western Europe won’t be able to buy the facelifted IS, the model is getting ready to arrive at U.S. showrooms.

Pricing starts at $39,000 for the base IS 300, which features a 241-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four and benefits from standard LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, auto-dimming mirrors, rearview camera, keyless entry&go, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone A/C, 8-inch infotainment system with smartphone integration, Pioneer audio, etc.

The IS 300 AWD starts at $41,000, with the 3.5-liter V6 making 260 HP and a six-speed automatic transmission channeling the power to the two axles.

Completing the range is the IS 350 F Sport, with a 311 HP 3.5-liter V6, sportier styling and extra gear, from $42,900 with RWD and $44,900 with AWD.

I believe Toyota products in general sell pretty poorly in Europe, so condensing the line up isn't a huge shocker.

Slightly off topic, but the upcoming 2nd gen 86 with the reported 2.4 is rumored to not be sold in Europe.

Its also the ever tightening emission restrictions that are killing ICE vehicles. I'm all for the environment, but in this day and age, regular road cars are a minor source of pollution.

I think the center console is just missing a QWERTY keyboard now and all the bases will be covered. Or is that hidden in the arm rest? At least it has physical buttons for some stuff.

I find the straight lines unergonomic looking, like they are not seating humans inside, but boxes.

I've found the IS interiors to be a little tighter than their competitors in the past. I wonder if they have tried to space things out a bit for larger North Americans.

The interior is exactly the same as the pre-"refresh".

This!

But to be completely honest, you do get a little more car with the 350 F at the same cost of an entry-level 3 series, at least on paper.

On paper these cars are similar, but in reality, the 3er is better at everything, even though it has less power on paper. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice looking car, but it's gimmicky and reminds me of Acura's new TLX(precision-crafted) lol. I'm by no means a BMW fanboy and would own either TLX or IS, but I would never lease them and I would absolutely modify them to improve aesthetics, whereas with the BMW, I can leave it alone and still enjoy it - that's a lot to be said in my case.

In my option, the IS will never compete with the 3 series. It's more of a competitor in the Japanese sedan segment - I know they try, but I don't know anyone who has ever crossed shopped an IS when looking at a C class or 3er. I honestly wouldn't and I own an RX350. I leased the 3 series because it offers so much more at competitive lease rates.

You lease 3ers, you buy a Lexus - this method is a better value.

Honestly what bothers me the most about that interior is the the screen, climate vents, and center stack are no where close to being aligned with each other.
