No Lexus - lol - her name isn't Karen and she doesn't want to talk to the manager. Seriously though, she hates Lexus, primarily because they are (a) boring as hell and (b) driven by everyone she didn't like.
Lol, this whole Karen thing has officially gotten out of hand. If you were to ask my Mom, she'd tell you the mere fact she has a sports sedan disqualifies her from being a potential Karen candidate.

Around here, Karen mobiles are SUV's A.) GLA, B.) Chevy Tahoe or Escalade, C.) Evoque.

I actually love these and will try and get her to look at them again - but she isn't really a muscle car gal. She's also super tiny so those cars seem way to big for her.

How would be explain that one? He's got a Ferrari and an Alfa 4C, sticks the wife in a Kia. Oh man. I'd love to see that conversation.

I love how people keep recommending cars that are wildly out of budget, lol. I've seen the RS3 brought up a couple of times, so I went and relooked at it. Decent examples are all over $50K. So roughly 15-20 grand over budget, lol. Also relooked at 981 Cayman's (2014+) and same for those. While there are 1 or 2 available in my price point from skeptical dealers, all the others are in the mid $40K range.

I think right now, the top contenders are, in descending order:

1. 2017-2018 Jag F-Type Coupe
2. 2009-2011 Porsche Cayman (man these are rare, like 5 of them in the whole country)
3. 2014-2015 Maserati GranTurismo
4. 2019-2020 Alfa Giulia Ti (unsure on this as I am about to buy a Giulia Quad)

Wild card on this - Wife saw the BMW i8 last night and loved the look of that car. Pricing is out of reach, though, at around mid 50's for our requirements. If she wants it that bad, she will have to pull the balance of the purchase price from her personal account and I doubt she will want to do that.

Lovely car, though. Wonder how it would do as a daily?

Note: In case you are wondering about the pricing details - we will use this car to replace the 440 cabrio. Figure we can get about mid 30's for that car, hence the price cap - as this is supposed to be a near net zero swap. Basically, she feels the 440 is a boring car and wants something more exciting to drive to work each day.

How bad is the 440 cab to drive? At least it is a cab so that offers something. This reeks of V6 Shaguar.

Pretty bad, honestly. That thing is a boat. It's quite quick in a straight line but it's huge, weighs like 2 and half tons, and wallows around like a Lincoln. It's not a car for her. Her previous cars in the USA were a GTi, Focus ST, and Audi RS4. Back in her home country she had an Alfa Brera and Peugeot RCZ.

It's a boat. Interior is like a swollen 2 series which makes sense, but from behind the wheel the feel is not 'tight' and doesn't drive like a small car (which is actually very appealing about it to many people).

*edit I see the original poster answered but he said the same for someone coming from a luxury sedan that is a 'cream puff' it's certainly very sporty - and has a real fun engine full stop. From someone coming from a sports car, and handling/carving it's not. But that's probably not it's intended audience.

Fiat Abarth spider has been a consideration except for the fact that she drove one and thought that it was dog slow. Also had an insanely loud cabin, hence the RF requirement for the Miata. Model S is too big - she has a 4 series BMW now and says it's huge. She's super tiny.
I hear you on the noise - to me that's a non starter as well. Slow is funny as it's all relative. Of course you can chip it if needed. Yeah the model S is a boat but it met the power, storage, and price metric.
There's always Gundam Civic Type R

Just get her an i3 then.

They practically give those away.

Saw an M2 recommended earlier, but that likely pushes the price boundary.

Would something like a 2013 DCT 135i work (I did have reliability issues with mine, but that was a sample of 1) or a newer M235/M240 should be in that price range as well.

CTR are fantastic cars, if you can get over the looks. Super fun to drive, and the interior is much nicer than pretty much all the other cars in the Honda lineup. It's very polarizing though.

I know OP said the wifey doesn't like Lexus b/c they're Karen-mobiles, but I would consider looking at the RCF and GSF (if you want to push that price point a bit). Aggressive looking cars, good handling, awesome V8 sound track, responsive auto with flappy paddles.

Might consider a low mileage Z4MC or Z4MR (2006-2008). Sub 20k miles, they run about $33k. One of the last of the real M cars, IMHO. We had a 2007 Z4MR a few years ago with 14k miles and it was a blast. Bulletproof motor, 6MT, M rear diff. Great driver's car and it gets noticed, especially the Z4MC.

I thought she'd be interested in a 240, but she said it just looks like every other car out there - and I can understand. They are quite nice, but no pizzazz.

No one is going to notice a Lexus in a parking lot unless they are drunk and have to pee.

Best car I ever owned, but doesn't meet the age requirements for OP. If I was rich though I would get one of those super low mile mint condition ones. Only car I've ever regretted selling.

996 Turbo. Mezger engine so no worries about IMS. AWD so good in inclement conditions. Fun to drive. Stands out.
