Seems like that gap is required for the handle at the front. I leave my tray open all the time as that is where my Sunglasses go. So no unexpected uses of my credit card

I can't believe it. I've had the car a year and not noticed that gap but today a parking ticket disappeared inside it.

No, I couldn't. It's possible to remove the wireless charging area but it's on a closed compartment separated from the one where the cover goes. It will be necessary to disassemble the console.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know if you can replace the material covering the centre console ?

My car has the piano black plastic and I would like to change it to the aluminium look from the original posters fotos.

Is this possible and if so - easy / DIY ??

I have the piano black plastic also. I had a detailer put Xpel PPF on it so it wouldn't scratch easily.

This is a hell of a DIY... honestly though, I would love to do a proper strip like this to do a vinyl CF wrap on the piano black trim. I hate that it reflects the sun and shows scratches so easily. Miss the MPerformance dry carbon that I had on my 2er.

Seeing how in depth this process is though, I can see why BMW hasn't made CF MPerformance trim like they did in the F chassis.
