A smaller G series chassis paired with an S58 motor in RWD format sounds promising!
I have an E46 Coupe. The current 2er and the E46 are almost identical in practically every dimension. Width, length, height, legroom, rear seat headroom ... everything but the damn gas tank.

The M2 is a small car but it's essentially the same weight (see HERE and HERE) as the bigger F80 M3 (both cars in Competition form). Not exactly a good thing for "one of the best M cars ever produced."

Although there's many elements I don't like about it, you can only go so far rehashing decades-old design cues. That's why the E60/E65/E90, for better or for worse, were such important cars. Obviously they didn't totally do away with things like the quad beam headlights and kink on them, but I think BMW is going through something similar again now.

Could they done this 2 with a little more "grace" though? Yeah.

Are you the type of person that would overly focus on the ankles of a stunningly good looking person? It's on the heavy side but the reality is that it's extremely capable, fun to drive, considered by most as the best M car today, and a general automotive media darling.

It isn't fat, it's big boned.

Unfortunately as SUVs are getting larger and heavier, cars have to as well to keep up with safety ratings. We're stuck in a feedback loop. Cars get bigger to keep up, the SUVs have to get bigger because it has to be bigger.

I agree this is heading for perfection right now.

Please BMW don't ruin the next M2 like the new 4 series, the current M2 and M2C are perfect as they are. I don't like the first impression of the next 2 series, the front kind of looks like an exaggerated 1 series F hatchback, and the rear like the Chevrolet Cavalier sold in South America (see pic). I'm really disliking the new BMW designs, it appears they are losing the bulldog stance and sporty presence. It looks like they have ran out of design ideas and just add unnecessary lines and creases everywhere that don't make any sense just so it looks "modern" and different (look at the rear bumper diffuser, what the hell is going on?). The designs are not clean and simple, it all seems very forced. It kind of feels like they haven't decided which way to go with the design so they mixed the Audi sharp lines with the Mercedes curvy lines and ended up with a mess without any identity. I guess they are just focused in stealing new clients from other brands and not maintaining their current clients going by what I read in most of the forum feedback of the 2 and 4 series.

The biggest shock to me about this post is that Chevy is still using the Cavalier nameplate on a car!

the spy shots look to match these leaked photos. Until further proof comes out, this is likely the next 2er.

There seemed to be solid consensus those are pics of a clay model in an elevator at the BMW development center. I don't think we've seen the final design details.

It will be heavier and have more power to compensate. :

And no word on manual so I'm still holding out hope.

I think Manual will be 100% M only at this point going forward.

Most consistent US speculation seems to be B48 (Core), B58 (new iteration possible - M Performance), S58 (detuned - M2) & manual M2 only.

Agree, the Bronco absolutely nailed design and is receiving universal acclaim from consumers and journalists.
