One change they need to make in DTM is to have translucent bodies so you can see the contraptions underneath.

I never understood exactly why they used the M6 as the basis for the GTLM and LMS car....when theres already a great platform in the M4.

Z4 size to a M6 size was a big leap IMHO

As discussed in this thread, the S55 would be too much of a liability and not be [as] competitive in GT racing. A racing engine based on the S63 made more sense (reliability, displacement, versatility of tuning/powerband) so naturally, the M6 was chosen.
Why not S63 in an M4 chassis? I reckon its because BMW had no more strings (loopholes, favors, etc.) to pull after homologating an S65 based racing engine (P65) in a Z4 chassis without selling an actual Z4 with an S65 in production trim.

As for DTM, the M4 DTM's chassis and engine are not based on the M4 in any way, shape or form. It is a monocoque chassis with a bespoke P66 4.0L V8 engine carried over from the M3 DTM. No requirement for it to be based on production chassis or engine. Think of it as the German NASCAR.

Back when DTM was great. Honestly the DTM races these days are boring as hell. A bunch of spec race cars doing laps.
