I don't like BMW's new design language - Am I too old?

I look at the new stuff that comes from our dearly beloved car brand, pretty much any new BMW that has rolled off the production line in the last 5 years including enthusiast loved M2, and simply no matter how hard I try I find nothing that I like. I would even go ahead and say the new M2 looks ugly. Nothing like an E46 where some try to compare it to.

To me E46 was the top and everything after it was just down hill looks wise. I do love my S65, and would say that it is one of the best engines put in an M car , period. Watched the episode of whealer dealer the other day where they are restoring an E46 and wanted my old one so bad!

Understand the whole turbo and hybrid approach most manufacturers have to take, but come on at least make your cars somewhat good looking. Saw the new 3 series on the street this week and that solid grill is just horrendous.

Anyone else feel this way? Wonder if it's an age thing, where at some point you like cars of your past better and stop following new trends.

I think it's partly your age(we all get locked in our era), but it's also just personal taste. I find that a lot of times I'm just late to the party. I won't usually like the new model until the even newer model comes out, and I'm like hey, I guess the last version wasn't so bad.

The E46 was my favorite for years, but it's looking a bit dated to me now, especially the front headlight area. What once gave me the impression of strength and aggression about the car now looks soft to me.

There are a few things I don't like about the M2, styling-wise, like that weird line on the side of the rear bumper, and the chunky front that's cool, but could have been done better, but overall I think it's a beautiful car.

Starting with the E90 I don't really like the high belt line of today's cars but it seems all automakers are using it so it's not a deal breaker.

A lot is driven by regulations. Well the grille is not but the high belt line is as is pedestrian safety re. the front end.

High door sills are the devil. Kept me out of the Z4MC, one of an infinite number of things I hated about our 135i, and something I dislike about many modern cars, but not all. BRZ and ND Miata are fine.

Also, coupes should have rear windows that at least vent. Surely it's not expensive to keep that feature. And while you're at it, please move my window switches back by manual gear lever, mmkay?

46, going on 87.

You don't miss the steamed lasagna noodle rear subframe? Or the marshmallow rear shock mounts?

Everything changes. Either you can adapt to -or accept the new styling cues, or should consider another brand.

Strictly design wise I like some of them, some not so much, especially the ones with the weird new grill. I don't find them amazing, but they look alright.

That being said I don't like BMWs anymore. Pretty much since the Bangle cars and them getting rid of the NA engines. I agree with the e46 being the pinnacle for me, however I would imagine that has more to do with that being the model that was out around the same time I was getting more into cars and BMWs.
