Haha, no I haven't lost a jacket. This was about a pup that seemed too good to be true online. Unfortunately, we discovered it is a scam. Glad I didn't drive all the way to ATL and I'm not out $$$.

Oh, that sucks about the scam. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of dog was it (allegedly)? There are definitely a large number of shelters with dogs looking for homes. That's where we got ours and couldn't be happier.

You just never know with online ads with stuff like that.

German Shorthair Pointer. The $650 price was too good to be true. They wanted me to Zelle or Apple Pay them the funds last night. I found it odd their e-mail responses were date-stamped Nov 5th since last night was Nov 4th. They asked for my post code. We don't use post codes in America. It was little things like that I kept noticing. I had a gut feeling maybe this puppy doesn't exist and was going to ask an ATL member to verify for me before making the trip. Asked the breeder multiple times for a phone number and physical address, never received a response once I advised them I have a friend in ATL that is going to come and look at the puppy before I pay for her. We found a post online about an hour ago from someone who fell victim to their scam. The search continues.

Yikes! No way would I ever agree to submit a payment before even seeing the dog in person or via proxy. You were spot-on to be suspicious with all that crap. Makes no sense anyone would demand payment before even confirming any of the details. "Post code"? Um, no. Instant red flag.

I’m on a GSP Facebook group for Louisiana. Actually spoke over the phone this afternoon to a guy who has a litter due on 11/15. He hasn’t advertised yet as they aren’t born. I’m going to get the pick of the litter IF there is a girl born.

I guess everything happens for a reason. This guy has a phone number, he has an address, and a Facebook page. The puppy is more expensive, but this is what you’d pay for a real GSP. Fingers crossed.

Sounds like puppyscam, er, I mean puppyfind.com. Every listing is for a 6-8 week old puppy, where the owner has just left the country to do missionary work in Africa and took the young puppy with them. Please send the money to ship the dog back to the USA.

I've already posted here about my friend figuring this out, and how my DW's OCD psycho dog came home with her while she was on a road trip picking up a real dog with/for my friend from a legitimate breeder.....

My grandfather and his friend breed and train GSPs in Alabama on their farm for bird hunting. Fantastic pups. Hope you’ve got some space to let out some energy!

What part of AL? Do you know if they've got a current litter? I wouldn't mind a back up plan in the event this 11/15 litter doesn't produce a female. She's only expected to produce 3 puppies.

They only sell hunt-trained pups ($$$). If you’re looking for something to retrieve some birds in high style, he’s your guy. Award winning dogs.

If it’s a pet you’re after, this probably wouldn’t be the way to go. While extremely excellent dogs, you’ll be paying for a lot that won’t mean much. Won’t knock it; my aunt took one of the mamas and has been their house pet for years.

I’ve seen the highly trained ones going for $5k. That’s horse territory lol. My intentions are for this pup to be a companion pet. I believe $1,100 is a good deal.
