My wife loves my car! Hard to keep her out of the drivers seat. In the 2 years since I bout it new I have had only very positive reactions to my Z4. Many more that I had toward my 2008 M5 or my M3

I'm now in my 18th month of my m40i ownership.
I do not think this is an impractical car: the cargo is large for a roadster (I fit 3 overhead bun compartment sized trolley plus a couple more bags) and this car is setup as a small GT, so freeways are nice and smooth. There's so much power I have to think the HP figure it's under-declared... and when you take out driver's aid and get to full sport mode this thing goes like hell. On the track I had to buy slicks for it, but it's worth it. The engine is an absolute peach, the engine note is wild and inside it's trimmed like the 7 series that's priced at over 100K. Also, people keep on putting this car against the 718. That's unfair, the only real aspect those two are similar is the size and the fact that they can drop the top. The Porsche is a mid engine car, way sportier and incredibly expansive (like all Porsche cars). I love the 718, but after spending time in a Porche dealership I lost all interest in the car (if you ever been in one and talked to any of the seller you know exactly what I mean) and back home the price comparison drove me in BMW territory. Does it mean it's perfect? No. It burns quite a lot of oil (bmw says it's normal, they keep refilling the tank every 3-4K miles), there's some electronic gremlins (not as much as I imagined tho being a first series), they could definetly have included ventilated seats and the suspension can use a softer setting (even tho in comfort is very plush, way plushier than the 718)... but I have the biggest smile when I drive it around and my wife doesn't complain anymore during longer trips. Also, there's very little on the streets, so I get asked often if it's a prototype. That's cool... |
