Supra GRMN with more powerful engine

https://www.carscoops.com/2024/03/20...upgraded-wing/

Speculation swirls around the engine, with rumors suggesting either the mighty BMW M4 CSL’s powerplant or the slightly less potent M2’s engine.
Any chance of us seeing another Z4 M?

Could do it a end of run special like the 335is series was where they burned off the last N54 engines that had been replaced by the N55 in the 335. Only issue for a street car is getting traction in low speed WOT operation.

Without AWD even the larger/heavier M3/4 have traction issues with the "S" engines.

I still think it'll only be an aero package, combined with some lighter material (i.e. carbon fiber) for a more track-focused car.

Not saying it’ll never happen, but I’d say there’s no chance BMW is letting Toyota cram an S engine into a Supra without offering the same, and there has been zero actual evidence to support it being real. My 2025 6MT is about to get on a boat and I’d trade it on a Z4M without a second thought.

I think the Supra is all about spinning the rear wheels. A bigger [more powerful] engine makes that easier. Simply a different market.

Putting the manual in the Z makes it as good as it can be.

I’m not saying it’ll never happen, but BMW has previously stated (I forget where) that the S58 can’t fit in to the Z4. I’d take that to assume it can’t fit in the supra either.

Also the videos sound more B58 than S58 to me. I think they’re going to crank up the boost on the B58 and do an aero package and sticky rubber, they’ll also probably add “lightness” instead of add crazy power. Just my 0.02

I read the article about the 2025 GRMN and and at this point in time which engine will be used is merely speculation on the part of the writer. This reminds me of the daily rumors published by blogs in the soccer world about famous players and their upcoming trades which never seem to happen.

Tires are a limiting factor on these cars. A “track focused” hotter Supra would just need suspension tweaks, aero, and set of cup type tires….barely street legal.

Look at the Dark Horse Mustang putting down lap times with what some consider “cheater” tires.

I just have to say, that baby goose neck wing on the Supra looks ridiculous

I also feel like they'd do quad-tips if this was an S-series engine.

I think this makes the most sense, the B58 from the M2 and call it a Z4 M Roadster, maybe 2026 MY. One last hurrah.

However, BMW also said the M2 would be the last M car with a manual transmission which means a hypothetical Z4 M would be automatic only, right?

Reminder - The generation that grew up on Fast & Furious movies are old now, but that doesn't mean our preferences for outlandish aero parts have diminished.

IMHO, for the best production model rear spoiler ever made you should give the Superbird the credit it deserves!!!

Bonus feature was having a mail slot for a trunk opening. Chrysler welded in additional stops to prevent the trunk from hitting the wing.

Attached pic is of someone’s conversion without the factory stops.

BMWBLOG raises the same question on S58 but also doesn’t have an answer.

Seems like a pretty one sided platform. Toyota has done very little to further the Supra from what BMW handed them. No Toyota engines at all, and this might get an S58??

Maybe Toyota will cram one of their own engines for a limited production run….might even satisfy the Supra purists who have not been happy with this partnership.

I wanted to say no way - too many changes or not fitting at all. Transmission mounting, engine mounting, ancillary stuff, wiring, controlling, and so on. But - the X3 I think can have the B58 or S58, so that would imply they actually do swap over, at least physically. I'm sure the ECU changes and all else are a lot of work, and all the crap bolted to the engine might be in the way of something already in place, but it is possible.

I don't see any Toyota engine going in. Admittedly I don't have a crystal ball but that does sound like what I'd call too much work to be reasonable.

If we're guessing, I'd say it's a tweaked B58 with a little more horsepower. Supra already gets its own version of it, so why not do it again but this time with more power.

Personally I can’t see the point of more power in a Z4.

Want a track car? Buy a track car. A Z4 with a B58 6 cylinder engine has more power than I personally will ever need on the road.

If you want a 2 seater with the B58 that's really fast, there's always the Morgan Plus 6. It weighs about 2400 lbs. There's just a little matter of the price tag. And dealer support.
