I actually think they spoilt that series of Shetland by making it appear too dark and brooding.
My wife and I spent a couple of weeks up on Shetland a few years ago and we had, in the main, the most amazing weather. OK, admittedly that was in the summer and as most of the islands are above 60 degrees north, they do have fairly short and dark winter days.
My memory of that trip to The Shetland Isles was of good weather and friendly people.
I'd had an ambition to go up to the northernmost point in The United Kingdom, Muckle Flugga, to photograph the lighthouse and the puffins, and managed to do both.
However it was on the ferry back from Unst to Yell that I remember the friendliness of the Shetlanders.
It is only a smallish ferry and, apart from a man with his van, we were the only other folk on board.
The captain came down from the bridge and asked if we would like to go up to take a look, and he insisted that Judith should sit in his seat and steer the ship - so I got a pic.
Great stuff and super picture of your lovely wife.

You confirm what I really expected. We've been to the UK several times, including "The North", but not into Scotland. We've added Scotland, and maybe the Shetlands to my list. My list already include puffins, so I might kill two birds with one stone. I'm hoping that with a little planning, we can hit a fair share of sunny weather.

The BBC seems dead set on making Scotland and Scandinavia (the BBC's Wallander, filmed in Sweden, made it look absolutely horrid). I think they use a "dreary-filter" on all exterior scenes. I find myself periodically saying, "Sun's out" to my wife, so she'll notice the false dreary.

Cheers,

Dave

Wifey's biennial UK conference will be in Edinburgh in Sep 2018. Can't wait for that one. Been looking forward to seeing Scotland.

Many thanks Gents!
I loved Scotland when I visited there several times in the Air Force. Unfortunately I can't hike around like I used to that makes traveling to the old world a challenge these days. I love to look at the pictures though!

Monsta, great shot of Yokohama Bay.

Ed, you must have an acute shortage of wall space. This is "a hanger".

I may have posted this back when it was new, but I recently mined my archive for stuff that might sell on Getty. This was taken from my balcony on the Queen Mary II, returning to the East River from England. You see lower Manhattan, as seen over Governor's Island, from the East River. The morning light was nice and One World Trade Center had recently shed it construction scaffolds and crane.

Was thinking that same thing. "Where does he hang all these great pics?"

Very cool shot of Manhattan, DC. Love the light.

Agreed, wonderful shot.

Walls are full, but 55" Plasma and Flickr slideshow works well

Thank you. It was taken with a Galaxy Note 4. Not a great pic enlarged but looks good as my phone wallpaper.

Not the greatest pic, but...
Ever since we bought our house, I've put a lot of work into re-naturalizing the property with PA Native Plants, gardening for wildlife, etc. In my front bed, I've created a Native Specimen garden with some pretty rare plants. One of the highlights are the Lady Slipper Orchids. They started flowering earlier this week. Pretty plant.

Looks like a very nice front garden! We have done the kind of the same thing out here, planting drought resistant native California plants and olive trees in our front yard in place of the lawn that was there when we got the place.

Last week I went to local regional park for a hike and photographed some birds with my 90mm Macro - - - a challenging subject matter at that focal length! Here is a cooperative tree swallow.
