Thanks Steve,
That's new to me, & very good!

"... A central piece on the 1974 album On the Beach, "Revolution Blues" is one among a collection of songs taking on the personal and collective psyche in Nixon-era America.... "

Glad you like it vanguard13. It's my favorite song on the album.

It was recorded after Tonight's the Night (a favorite Neil Young album of mine) but released before. Both albums were called a "crude production." I especially like the Tonight's the Night album, and it's 'crudeness' is one of the things that draws me to it.

Here's another favorite of mine from On the Beach:

Speaking of Tonight's the Night, here's the title song, which I've played before but I think it deserves another listen. lol

"Following the 1973 Time Fades Away tour, Neil Young wrote and recorded an Irish wake of a record called Tonight's the Night and went on the road drunkenly playing its songs to uncomprehending listeners and hostile reviewers. Reprise rejected the record, and Young went right back and made On the Beach, which shares some of the ragged style of its two predecessors. But where Time was embattled and Tonight mournful, On the Beach was savage and, ultimately, triumphant."

More about Tonight's the Night...

Quote:
Tonight's the Night is a direct expression of grief. Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten and Young's friend and roadie Bruce Berry had both died of drug overdoses in the months before the songs were written. The title track mentions Berry by name...

Esteban Hey I don't know if you get SiriusXM, but channel 27 is doing Neil Young radio all month. We are heading out the door shortly for a little road trip to Sedona, and Neil will accompany us!

Yes, I do have SiriusXM. Was listening in the car the other day and that's where I heard "Revolution Blues," that I posted above. It reminded me of how much I like that song, which I hadn't heard in a while.

Used to own the album On the Beach. Bought it when it first came out. Have no idea what happened to it, like so many of my albums, lol. Too many years have gone by.

Man, isn't that the truth! When we sold our first home and moved out of it in '99, I think all my old cassettes and albums were in a box in the attic. Hope the new owners appreciated my taste in tunes!

Glad you found the channel! I'd been meaning to mention NYR to you for a while now, but never seemed to connect the dots while sitting at the computer. OK, out the door we go. Lovely day for a nice drive! See ya' Sunday!

"Oh, I'm growing younger now
And how I just don't know
But the feeling’s much more happy
And life it's nice and slow
The past is just some photographs
Of the good friends that I know
And my love is so much better
Yes it is

Yeah, I'm goin' on back to Tulsa one more time"

"Well, I don't exactly know
What's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
Each other, not like brothers.

Just a stranger in a strange land"

vanguard13, you might remember several posts ago (post #10678) when we were talking about The Beatles, I mentioned Phil Spector and his "Wall of Sound." Part of what made that sound was a group of session musicians called The Wrecking Crew. Leon Russell was one of those musicians.

Quote:
The Wrecking Crew was a loose collective of Los Angeles-based session musicians whose services were employed for thousands of studio recordings in the 1960s and 1970s, including several hundred Top 40 hits. The musicians were not publicly recognized in their era, but were viewed with reverence by industry insiders. They are now considered one of the most successful and prolific session recording units in music history.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wrecking_Crew_(music)

He was a great musician and singer. I liked him especially in the Concert for Bangladesh, with George Harrison.

His career was amazing.
My Grandma hated his voice!

"He collaborated with many notable artists and recorded at least 31 albums and 430 songs.[5][clarification needed] He wrote "Delta Lady", recorded by Joe Cocker, and organized and performed with Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour in 1970."
"As a pianist, he played in his early years on albums by the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, and Jan and Dean. On his first album, Leon Russell, in 1970, the musicians included Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. One of his early fans, Elton John said that Russell was a "mentor" and an "inspiration"."
