My response was that they do.

I don't know anyone who likes the cerium trim and it sticks out like a sore thumb.

My X3MC came with the black trim which I didn't care about until I actually saw the cerium trim.

Tried talking my girl (who is looking at the Z4) to get the shadow line package but she likes the chrome.

I told her that is very 1980s of her

I dislike the chrome but really like the Cerium, especially the wheels; here in Canada I had the choice on my 2020 M40i. I didn't realize you guys in the states couldn't get the black at that time.

That's part of the problem: the online configurator makes it look very subdued and almost like chrome - it isn't. It only works with a few colors IMHO.

The cerium mirrors show bugs like nothing you have ever seen before and will gross her out. Search this forum for pics and cleaning tips - she will need them!

The sDrive30i comes with chrome-looking (BMW refers to them as satin Aluminum trim) grill surrounds unless you order the Shadowline Package for $300. The cerium is a little more grey. I ruled out getting the M40i because I didn't like the exhaust nozzles and the cerium bits (and maybe the $10,000 bump ). Exhaust pipes are pipes and pipes are round! Also, the beauty of a women is set off by some sparkling jewelry - in this case a car with chrome accents (bright silver). spta97's girlfriend has good taste (not 80's - timeless!).

For those looking to do the replacement work outlined in this thread, here is a place you can get some cheap trim tools. https://ind-distribution.com/collect...or-install-kit

I'd like to say I ordered the M40i BECAUSE of the Cerium bits, but the truth is that was just the icing on the cake; the 6 cyl was mandatory for me.

And if you didn't someone at BMW design would probably lose their job.

My issue with the chrome is it feels dated and newer vehicles seem to be going away from it. My truck (Nissan Armada) has a nose full of chrome and chrome bumpers. They looked cool at the time but I guess I like more subdued now. Current models agree.

My big issue with the cerium is it looks like a third color on the car which is out of place and competing with the body color and black trim.

Had it been more of a brushed titanium I might have liked it.

To each their own though, my opinion is just that but I’ll say if I didn’t have black grills on my X3MC they would have been swapped day one with extreme prejudice!

Most people on the forum don’t like them. I personally think they look kinda cool but would not put them on my car.

I think yours would look better closer together.

I agree with you that the current style has moved away from chrome. Styles come and go. Anyone in the market for the new stylish 4 series? Yuck! I would never buy any new Lexus as I can't stand the snow-plow front-end look (love my 2008 model). Both BMW and Lexus continue to sell that stylish look, but come on man!

Got the parts in but, not having any luck getting the old ones out. Feels like I'm going to break it in 1/2 before those tabs release. Is it supposed to be that tight?

Agree, as a lover of the old RX350 I refuse to ever buy a Lexus based on that aggressive gonna-eat-you grill. Looks stupid.

Having said that after being a new BMW driver for 2 years I'd never go back to Lexus. BMW is in a different league.

Lexus does have the reliability thing going.

Hey guys. New on the board so I can’t start a new thread. I just replaced the cerium grille with black. Anybody replace the left & right lower cerium pieces?
Trying to figure out how to get to those. Thanks.

I think the cerium bits work well on a black car especially with the black wheels, breaks it up a bit.

As I said before, I like the Cerium and , in Canada, I had the choice between black and Cerium on my M40i. If I had a Z4 with the chrome grill, I'd definitely swap for black or Cerium. Since my car is black, black grills made it seem like I lost too much detail....JMHO

I agree... on black... the cerium looks great. Mine is white w/ black wheels. So BMWGirlFL... how did you change the lower side duct trim pieces? Do you have to go in through the wheel well or from underneath, or can you get a tool through the edge to pop?

Thanks. "Different" but hopefully similar enough to work. Gives me some insight.
Thanks again 🙌🏻
