Bimmercode

I'm thinking about getting Bimmercode and an adapter for my G29.

Can anyone recommend an adapter? A couple of videos I've seen online recommend the iCar Pro ($30 on Amazon), but when I go to the Bimmercode site, they don't list the iCar but instead list ODBLink and vLinker (both of which are $60 on Amazon).

Also, any general thoughts on reprogramming the G29?

USB-C and/or Apple Lightning to Ethernet Adapter & BMW ENET Cable work excellent and FAST

Ok, after a little more research, it looks like the iCar Pro does not work with G series BMW's.

There also looks to be a bit less pricy recommended unit, the vgate vLinker BM+

And as CaboM4 pointed out, I could go hard wire.

This one is obd not usb but it works perfect, Maybe not so fast. But fast enough to let you think twice what you are doing. Some changes on the software are not to be taken lake a game.

What have you coded?

Following up, what have people coded in the G29?

I've only done...

- Turned off active sound design.
- Turned on auto start/stop memory.

Maybe just remove the lamp socket leaving the painted plastic cover in place. Then black paint or tape the bulb? Don't know for sure because I don't have these lights.
Don't recall seen any option in Bimmercode, but you can send them a message and see if they can help you using the expert mode.

Do you have ESYS? Willing to send me a read from your body ECU, so I can compare and figure out the difference in lighting mappings and post for us poor North America bastards that get the hideous DOT-mandated reflectors?

I will post a picture of the lighting mappings from bimmercode.
Don't be so upset about your dot, I shipped a corvette from the US long ago and had to change the 4 rear lights, because here turning signal must be amber not red plus it can't be used as brake light. I liked the way it looked in the US, all lights red.😭😭

thanks, but unfortunately I need the full NCD file from ESYS to have meaningful data to compare.

Bimmercode is the "coding for dummies" version that takes all the NERD out of it

You don't have esys and an ENET cable by chance do you? What I need to fins is the bit and byte that holds the coding data for the lighting mapping channel controlling left and right sidemarker lights and see what is coded off your EU and on for NA

Sorry but I can't help you more.
In the mean time, you might want to try unassembling the lights

What?! We need a computer science degree just to adjust our cars now.

yes, if you want it to do things BMW didn't program it to do

Or just become very proficient in ESYS, the software the BMW engineers use to program the vehicles in the first place

no worries ... i may just try to generate some dummy NCD files off of an EU-spec model code and go from there ... have been too lazy. Only have 1300 miles on the G29 since i acquired it August 2020, so it obviously doesn't bother me much! lol

sorry to hijack your thread! Did you make a decision on adapter?

Do you want a wireless dongle for any particular reason? The ENET cable is much more versatile for other uses such Bimmercode, Bimmerlink, ESYS, ISTA, Bootmod3, etc.

No problem on the 'hijack'

I ended up getting a bluetooth dongle since I can leave it plugged in without it getting in the way when needed. It works with Bimmerlink and others as well. I got the vgate vLinker BM+ from Amazon ($40). Easy to use.

makes sense ... you coded off the OBD-2 Alarm in bimmercode I assume?

how do you find the read/write speed with bimmercode using this adapter? i have a couple older bimmercode compatible bluetooth & wifi adapters ... just curious

Probably not. I discovered that leaving it in with my phone linked set off the car alarm. Haven't had a chance to chase down why. Sounds like I need to change a setting.

Speed seems fine. I didn't time it but perhaps 10-15 seconds for a write or read.

Due to high theft of BMWs in EU, in ~2017 BMW added an "OBD Alarm" to set off the car alarm when it detects something plugged into the OBD port with the car alarm activated.

It should be a setting in the Body ECU. If you can't find it I can take a look for the code in my notes and tell you how to "expert mode" code it
