Still has not grown on me. I loved my 2014 4 series, such a sharp looking car

What officially counts as a sale? Does my order (placed in January) count in these Q1 numbers, or will it count in the Q2 numbers when I take delivery (assuming it ever leaves the port)?

IMHO, if and when they announce the 6MT you will see a significant increase in sales.

BMW Z4 Production Extended Until March 2026: Report

When BMW gave the Z4 a Life Cycle Impulse last year, the sporty roadster was subjected to nearly imperceptible changes. As a matter of fact, it didn’t even get the iDrive 8 you can now have on a lowly 2 Series Active Tourer and soon on a 1 Series. Why was that the case? Because automakers avoid pouring money into a product that they project won’t be a strong seller. For the same reason, the 8 Series LCI also brought discreet tweaks.

Much like the 8er is supposedly going away, the Z4 will bow out in the medium term. It is widely believed the model codenamed G29 will not live to see a next-generation model. Previous reports had stated BMW will discontinue the soft-top convertible in 2025, but new intel suggests it’ll soldier on for a little longer. A well-known insider from the Bimmer Post forums claims production has been extended by five months compared to the original plan.

As it stands, the Z4 will continue to be made until March 2026 when the mechanically related Toyota Supra is also reportedly scheduled to go out of production. It’s worth mentioning the cars aren’t actually built by BMW and Toyota as manufacturing has been externalized to Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. The company also builds the 5 Series, but it’s best known for the Mercedes G-Class it’s been making since the late 1970s.

Before the Z4 drives off into the proverbial sunset, BMW is still planning to put a clutch pedal inside the M40i. Although the Munich-based marque hasn’t said anything about a three-pedal M Performance version, we have it on good authority it’s still in the pipeline. However, it might not be a global product as the company could decide to sell the stick shift Z4 M40i in select markets, with the United States being an obvious candidate since the manual’s take rate is high among M customers.

According to the same insider familiar with BMW’s plans, the three-pedal Z4 M40i will go into production in March 2024.

Interesting news! Though, it does not affect my Z4 order; I can't believe I'm saying this as a stick-shift fascist. As I approach 40, I suppose my tastes have shifted.

I really want that manual… love the ZF8 so might just have to stable two of these bad boys and keep the mileage down on the manual so it lasts for about 50 years

This. And then in 20 years you sell the low mileage manual on Bring A Trailer for more than you paid for it

Food for thought, if BMW offered some more exciting colors like you see on the Supra and other cars in the market that are aimed at a younger demographic don’t you think that the sales of the Z4 would increase?

Yes. They have no bright colors except for portimao blue. I reiterate they need a hatch ala E85 m coupe again!!

Portimao Blue doesn’t pop, Frozen Orange which was the launch color and not even offered in the US market and Misano Blue which they discontinued were the only youthful, fun colors that they ever offered on the Z4.

Yeah, Poritmao is nice, but it lacks the pop of Misano. That to me is the type of color they need for this type of car (so sad they discontinued t for 2023).

Although I don't see ADDITIONAL colors reducing sales, I do think if they dropped some of the standard colors (white, silver, black) in favor of brighter colors, I think that would result in a solid decline in sales.

I suspect I'm pretty close to the target market for this car (54yo male), and I'm simply not going to drive an orange, lime green or yellow car. Not saying that there aren't many that would, but I think you get more sales in this car with more modest colors (if you are limited to a certain number of available colors).

I am not advocating that they drop any of the standard colors, I am suggesting that if they offered some flashier colors they would definitely attract a younger customer. Frankly the colors that they are offering for the 2023 model are pretty boring and they could use some flashier colors like pictured below.

I’m target market mid 50s and would 100% prefer the brighter color. Lime green , orange or Miami blue and I’m selling my PB and buying another one

I am in my 70’s and would definitely consider a nice orange or a color like Miami Blue. 👍🏻

Like I said, I'm sure there are some/many that would like a bright color, but if they are for some reason limited to x number of colors, I suspect they will sell a lot more to the 50+ crowd which is likely their audience with more neutral colors. ALSO, I suspect that we here on the forum only represent a fraction of the overall buyers, even at the low numbers the G29 sells at.

I have no idea why they only make a few colors available, but I'm sure it's cost/profit related.

Even if they just replaced SFR with a bright red (Toronto?) and PB with a bright blue (misano?) - no one would complain…
