It will be interesting to see how many (few) Z4's come with the third pedal.
IMHO, the typical Jaguar owner wants a luxury car and therefore would select an automatic transmission. BMW attracts a different type of buyer and offering the manual makes much more sense.

My prediction is that 35% of the Z4s will have a 3rd pedal my end of 2023, and 50% will by the end of 2024. This car will specifically pull buyers BECAUSE of the manual, driver car cred. (Still needs an S58).

This is a small, nimble, 2-seater. BMW was a little confused, going after the F-Type in the design phase, but that's not what this car is at all. Maybe that's what BMW should have gone after as an Z5-8, but it's stable-mate pushed it downmarket. The Z4s nearest competition is the Boxster, which checks off all the enthusiast creds that BMW misses.

I had a GTS 4.0 Boxster pull along side my M3 the other day... and I would have gone straight to the Porsche dealer to order one if I didn't know they wouldn't try to shake me down for 40k ADM.

The relative scarcity & ADM on the 4.0 GTS is bonkers.

Probably just a typo in the future cars post, but it does say March of 2024, not 2023….

There was already speculation that it meant "March 24th", not "March of 2024". It seems very likely that the manual will come along with the LCI.

It's kind of depressing. I'd pay Porsche to put another 40k of engineering into their cars - but I have literally zero interest in giving a dealership thousands of dollars just for them... existing.

That's almost exclusively the reason I haven't jumped to Porsche and keep going back to BMW.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I'll be really surprised if the numbers get to even half that. .......agreed on the Porsche price gouging....

Since Jag only offered the manual with the lowest V6 engine output, that automatically (pun intended) pushed most buyers to the ZF8. for me, having the supercharged V8 was non-negotiable.

Asked in the future models thread. Supposedly 2024 - not together with LCI

That doesn't make sense since the Supra manual is coming in MY2023, and it's extremely unlikely BMW would confirm any kind of plans that far into the future. And I doubt BMW wants to do the work to sell it for only 1 year.

I'm still predicting 2023 on this unless the plan is to pair up with the GRMN Supra for an actual Z4M as a parting gift to the roadster world... but, I just don't see BMW investing in that.

But if they do... BMW TAKE MY MONEY, I'LLL WIRE IT RIGHT NOW.

Tend to agree with you, however, don't think we have seen anything official from BMW?

We have seen things from what I would consider reputable sources.

Yes, a Final Edition Z4 with ICE & manual would be a fantastic gift to the automotive world.

This is fantastic news! I was all set to buy a Porsche Boxster with manual transmission, but am now shifting (no pun intended) my plan to the Z4 M40i with 6MT when it's released next year. Can't wait!!!

The Boxster is a great roadster, of course, but they are impossible to get, ridiculously overpriced, and no wireless CarPlay, which is irksome. Besides, I've always been a BMW guy and love the look of the Z4, so I'm really psyched to be able to have my cake and eat it too!

Until the official announcement is made most salesmen at you dealers will be unaware of the MT. I spoke to my guy last week and he wasn't and he is someone who is usually "in the know". I would plant the seed now if you have a favorite dealer/ salesman so you could be at the beginning of the production run once the MT is made official.

Your post brings up an interesting question regarding wireless CarPlay. No intent to hijack the thread! With that said, my Z4M40i, awaiting a ship assignment, had wireless charging deleted, so no digital key either. Wonder if that affects wireless CarPlay?

To put back on track, my salesman is watching for any information on 2023 Z4 M40's and if manuals are immediately available, I may switch my order to a 23 w/manual. My guess is that he won't know anything before I have to take delivery.

My 2022 does not have wireless charging and I do have wireless CarPlay.

The only car currently making that 35% rate is the M3 and M4 vehicles. Even Europe is moving away from manuals. If the lack of a manual is holding you back, it's your loss. I have my F22 M235 and E85 M Roadster to give me that manual fix. I just finished a 5912 mile road trip, mostly on secondary roads, and didn't miss the manual once!
The fact that you "didn't miss the manual once" on your recent road trip has zero relevance to the great many BMW enthusiasts (myself among them) who vastly prefer driving stick.

Note to BMW from 6MT enthusiasts: "If You Build It, We Will Come!"

Be interesting to see what the take rate is. Don't see dealers ordering them for lot cars. Special orders by buyers will have to support the MT on their own.

Not much development cost as the B58 has already had an MT behind it. Personally my sports car is an MT as is my pickup truck. Have no interest in a Z4 MT. Its a quick & agile GT car don't see taking that away & slowing the process down.

Despite the relative comfort and luxury the Z4 offers, it is far more of a true sports car than you're giving it credit for. Trust me, a Z4 M40i with 6MT will have an abundance of takers, even if you're not one of them.

Unfortunately, none of the articles posted indicate that a manual transmission is on the way - just ‘highly likely’. Seeming based on the fact that the Supra is getting one (different market segment).

I also can’t see how converting a BMW driver from one model to another makes any financial sense.

Is there going to be an increased cost? As already noted, any higher in price and you are pushing Porsche money. The MT Supra costs more than the better equipped Auto and has limited options. It’s also a lot less money than a well equipped Z4.

Don’t get me wrong, I like a MT. But it’s complaining that a MacBook you want to buy doesn’t have a CD player, so you won’t get it. You won’t miss it, even if you think you will.

As such, if you want a manual Z4, buy a Supra.
