I have been waiting to order my 2023 Z4 since June. I was certian I was going to order the Misano blue, but then BMW killed it. I have looked at all the colors except for the Portimao blue & Thundernight. However, I have seen both on different cars. I know you can’t compare, but I have not been impressed. I find the Portimao to be dull.

So, I think I am down to either the Black Sapphire Metallic (with black wheels & moonlight top) or Portimao blue (black wheels & moonlight top). I live in the PNW, so black is not a concern for heat. I have had two black cars, and my current 335is is in Black Sapphire, so I can’t hardly believe that I am considering a 3rd black car (and it’s even the same color)! But, I keep being drawn to how sharp the Z4 is with the moonlight top and black wheels in Black Sapphire Metallic.

I know opinions are like ***, and everyone has one, but I am opening up Pandora’s box anyway. What’s everyone thoughts?

Biased but will comment. Only change had I ordered instead of taking a lot car would be a Moonlight top. Not a fan of black wheels.

Not what you asked, but take a hard look at SSG. That is such a nice color and think it would be a nice change from black while still being in the same general pallet.

I have looked at SSG, and I just can’t seem to love it. Too bad there is no Z4 to actually look at it in. I might totally change my mind.

I hear ya. I'm torn between Portimao andThundernight (though Misano would have been my first choice). What color interior are you considering? I like the Magma, so it has me leaning more towards the Portimao.

I think after a huge amount of back and forth we're going with the Frozen Grey II Metallic, moonlight top and cognac seats. It's the one combo that both my partner and I unequivocally love. Portimao blue is a close second though (and probably the smart choice).

That one is easy. I am going to get black with the blue stitching. I am slightly curious if my opinion of Thundernight changes when I see it in person.

Just remember the frozen paint colors require special handling when you wash the car.

I have that now in my M340i and I get tons of compliments. Good choice! That'll go with pretty much any of the exteriors, so that doesn't help narrow it down

Unfortunately, it doesn’t. I really don’t want black again, but man does it seem so sharp every time I see it.

Yea this is an amazing combo I have alpine white and magma red but whenever I see a frozen grey with cognac I'm like woow it is so classy and stunning. Red gets tiring sometimes too but the cognac wouldn't. Don't get me wrong white and red looks GORGEOUS especially when CLEANED EXTREMELY WELL AND SHINING, but placed next to a frozen grey with cognac and shadow line trim with red brakes and black wheels (do not get grey wheels or grey trim on exterior just get black), the Grey looks much classier and more premium and eye catching in a classy and sexy way and shows the z4s curves especially the front being wider than the rear which is unique far better. I had a black z4 m40i and I have white now. When I see photos it's so astonishing how much the black showed all the curves and lines and how well it went with red whereas the white looks plain and flat.

Throw in some leatherette (not leather) and it's amazing. But sadly no leatherette with colors because prejudice and old school dogmatic beliefs

This is a similar post someone else posted, but I’m looking to trade up to an M40i and this is what I’m going for.

Probably going the same route, but with the bi-color wheels. Solid choice.

I agree and think that the cognac interior looks great with many colors and definitely adds some class to the overall looks of the car, most especially when the top is down!

I love how the red calipers really pop against the black wheels and they definitely go with the Magna Red interior.

High five, sounds like the dilemma I always have. I always try to get colored cars, aaand then I see the black one and go for that because black is awesome.

I do own a black Z4 but that's how I found it (used from the dealership) but I would've probably gone for black anyway. The red was tempting and so was the blue, but something about the Z4 in black makes it look Batmobile-esque somewhat.

So it'd be an easy choice for me.

Black Sapphire Metallic is definitely one of the nicest blacks offered by any manufacturer in the market today!

They all look good but if I had to reorder my Z4 today, I'd get the same color scheme; black and magma with the cerium (yes, I like it)

Agree the Z4 is a do over on Black Sapphire.

First was a 435 MPPK-MPE.

Had chosen for BMW's a Middle Gray (ZHP) a Ferrari type Red (X3), Space Gray (335is), Mineral GrayX2 (135is & M440 MPPSK), Sapphire Black X2 (435 MPPK-MPE & Z4 M40), Dravit Gray (M4C).

Looks like I like to go in quiet guy cammo.

Agree, missed the red calipers by 1 year. Would have gotten them in a heartbeat. Was able to get them on the M4C

I think the blue stitching would play nicely with the blue exterior color and calipers...others opinion may vary...

You will get many compliments on the Frozen Grey. It is just an awesome color for the Z. I've even astounded people who thought it was a wrap. Clean, the frozen grey turns plenty of heads. Enjoy.

My first choice would be Frozen Grey with Magma seats and red calipers. But spending an extra $3k on Frozen Grey is a little steep.

If it was only between BSM and PB, I'd go with PB with the black with blue stitching you indicated you liked. However, you shouldn't take my advice since I've only owned black cars for the last 18 years!
