I get going with Aluminum to hide the fingerprints, but I don’t like that the interior would have two different metal finishes plus the high gloss black around the air vents. That’s why I went with high gloss black to keep the look consistent.

Makes sense. I still have some gloss black in my car too, so I guess you can't get rid of it all.

In my 335is, BMW carried the interior trip up to the center console. In that car, it is either the black plastic, leather, or the interior metal trim choice. I wish they would have done that in the Z4. If they had, I would have chosen a metal trim.

Oh I have the aluminum as well, but there are pieces on the Z4, regardless, that has the high gloss black. (around vents, below the screen, outside on the brake vents, etc)

The near complete lack of accessories offered by BMW for the Z4 is big disappointment for me. I realize it's because of the low production numbers but, given the 6 years or so of production run, I'd think they could offer a handful of popular items they could make a profit on over that period.

Carbon would be a nice addition not only on the trim but also on the steering wheel.

Does anyone think the 2023 z4 should have had the new dual screens with I drive 8. Sometimes I have "grass is greener" syndrome and see the newer cars with the dual screens and Immeadiately think it's "better" or that I drive 7 is outdated.

However, especially in the z4 the idrive7 and digital dash is so well integrated vs sticking on two wide screens on the dash aftermarket style and calling it a day. So perhaps it best z4 kept I drive 7?

Nope. I'm actually glad they stayed with iDrive 7. My wife's lease is up here in April on her X1. We went and looked at the new X1 as well as an X3. She decided to go with the X3, and one of the biggest reasons was it still has iDrive 7. The new X1 has iDrive 8 and she was not a fan of having to use the touchscreen for everything. Even the heated steering wheel is via touchscreen. We both prefer the buttons for stuff like that.

Our Subaru Outback has a big 11.6" screen which is nice for the infotainment but they also chose to eliminate some of the physical buttons and integrate them into the touchscreen. Seat heating and climate control must now be fumbled with on the touchscreen. It sometimes drives me bonkers.

What once was a quick push of a memorized physical button with no distraction to driving now requires multiple precise presses on a touchscreen, definitely a distraction to driving especially when trying to accomplish this on a less than smooth road.

Yeah, if they just left the climate stuff as buttons I'd be ok with it. At least the controls for temperature and the heated seats/wheel, since I feel like those are the things I use the most.

Tesla have a lot to answer for! They’ve had it a while, and the person I know with one (or three!) said a similar thing to start with - they tried to hide that fact, but you could tell and they eventually admitted it was a pain, after wow-factor wore off.

Almost everyone I have talked to does prefer the climate controls as separate, physical, devices. That includes myself.

Omg no. Part of the reason I bought it was not having that ginormous ugly screen and lose my 8 buttons! I’m going to Porsche next if I have to have I drive 8/9

The new iDrive is doing away with most of the buttons/switches and from what I can tell from some photo of the newer cars which are coming out with it, even the programmable radio buttons are gone.. Cars need some buttons/switches.

There are things which would be very awkward to accomplish if they no longer had buttons/switches. For an exaggerated example, what if your turn signals were no longer on a switch, but in a menu somewhere? I don't dislike the menu system. It is very powerful, but not everything needs to be in it, but because of cost cutting they want to eliminate switches/buttons. The unintended consequences will be to increase distractions for the driver with obvious results.

Many year ago, when I took my M Roadster in for service, I was given a loaner to drive home. After I left the dealership, I wanted to turn up the heat (middle of winter), but I wasn't able to because there were no HVAC controls. The change needed to be made by going through menus. I had to pull into a parking lot just to find the place in the menus to turn up the heat. Not a good idea to do away with all of the buttons/switches IMHO.

Aside from eliminating the buttons they are putting more emphasis on voice commands. Have they forgotten how loud it can be inside a convertible when driving at high speeds with the top down?

I don't have the convertible yet so I can't comment about the noise issue here, but I will say that the voice commands actually do work pretty well in my closed-roof car. It's pretty good at understanding what I want and I don't have to repeat myself often.

Don't think voice commands are a good fit with a convertible. I might be surprised but almost 3 years in have not tried it.

Granted, It isn't terribly difficult to hold a conversation with the top down. At highway speeds with the windows up, you do have to elevate your voice a bit, but it's not terrible. My son is a soft speaker, so .. it IS hard to hear HIM talk, but you're not going to have a phone conversation with the top down. That's why I get grumpy that sometimes I need to take a meeting on the road and have to drive around with the top up. don't care if it's an ugly day, but them NICE Good Temp days... GRRR!!!!!

That being said, having voice commands as a sole source of doing things is a terrible idea in any car. Think accessibility options for those hard of hearing or thick accents. My wife struggles with anything that requires voice. She has a verrrrry thick accent.

Has anyone ordered an individual color on this car? Is it possible. Would love the white matte the supra comes in or their red. Not a fan of San Fran red.

Don't believe it's an option on the Z4.

Not possible as the Z4 is made for BMW by Magna Steyr in Austria.
