I find this amazing

I live in The Villages Florida. It is a community of about 150k people. It is growing rapidly. Anyway, they have a Z club. It is for all Z cars. I am not a member yet, no car. To be a member you must live in The Villages and own a Z car. I just wanted to post the main page to their website. Check this out. I don’t know how many are G29’s but I’m guessing quite a few.

Well, I am now a member. I did my first Club function a few days ago. We went to NPD to view Rick Schmidt’s collection. A great time was had.

geiger;

Now that you are a member, consider the Mountain Tour in Oct. Your Z4 will fit in with the other Z4s and Z8. And it is a fun trip, though not as many people as in your picture.

Are you talking about the Europe trip. I don’t see any other trips in October.

AND not a single one of them knows how to drive on corners without having to brake to 10mph and still somehow crash

That's a pretty healthy # of Z owners in your local community! If you haven't been, Maggie Valley is pretty scenic in that NC/TN mountain town kind of way - lots of windy two-lane, and plenty of green vegetation along the roadway.

And my impression with his first post was that he was a straight up troll. Now I think there's some attention seeking behavior involved. Either way, seems harmless.

Actually, I’ve been there “BRP” several times. With cars and bikes. I used to drive/ride down from Ohio every year. I still think he’s a 🧌

Yes, a very impressive number of Zeds though understandable given its demographics, the perfect "fun" car for those in our phase of life.

I had the same impression, a troll. I don't understand but can almost pity someone who seems to focus so much effort on the denigration of others while being oblivious to the impression it leaves on others.

I bet the percentage of BMW and Porsche owners who take their cars to the track is in the single digits or teens.

Nooooooooo😭😭😭😭😭😭

But I was sadly already aware of this..it's definitely lower than the 2 digits and most likely 1-3% that go on the track semi regularly in the US.

In Europe those numbers go up way way higher.

Well if they can't enjoy their cars on the track, then what's a bmw for? The handling and power are wasted. Might as well always get a base 318i or 320i in th e us or the 28i

Many car purchases are illogical in that sense, including my own. It's rare that 445 hp is of any real use to me, yet somehow I still like that it's there. Not sure that even I know why. Most of us spend most of our time in some form of urban driving where a Mazda Miata would be way more fun, yet we'd still rather have a Bugatti Veyron.

Why? Because I can? Because it's there? I'll have it if I need it?

Lots of reasons. But that's why we eat quality steak on the grille, or slow smoked ribs which take a day or so to cook, instead of protein pills (Major Tom).

I had a Fiat 124 (Miata ND, but different engine). That was a really fun car. It would have been a great autocross car, if I'd have kept it. Very 'low tech' by BMW standards, though.

But if you are giving out a Bugatti, I won't say no...

My guess is that your numbers are very low. I read somewhere that 80% of Porsche owners track their cars. I doubt the same could be said for BMW owners, but I would guess it is much higher than just the teens. Most people who take advantage of track days don't usually talk about it outside of their group of track buddies.

I found a post by John Browne which seems to be a reasonable guesstimate. It is for all car owners. I don't know the percentage of BMW/Porsche owners who are in that group, so your guess is as good as mine.
Assume 2 race tracks per state (some have more, some have less), or 100 total. Assume on average 9 months suitable weather for track days. Assume 2-5 track days per month (I'm counting club days, open HPDE days, but not test 'n' tune days which are for race cars and licensed race drivers only). So for a ballpark you can have 200- 500 track days per month X 9 months per year, or 1800-4500 track days per year, with guess 50 people attending average per each. If you further assume the average driver attends 2 track events per year, then you have a VERY ROUGH ESTIMATE of between 45k and 112,000 people driving at least one track day per year. Split the diff and you get about 75k.

I can't tell if you are agreeing with me or challenging what I said, which a reply that begins with "Why?" typically connotes. In any event, I can tell from your food analogy that we are of like mind on this.

Agreeing, yes. Basically, if we knew why people do things then we would live in a perfectly boring ‘utopia’. My questions were rhetorical - there is no answer!

I’d be very, very surprised at this. Looks like Porsche sold 70,025 cars in 2021. Of this, about 43K were Macan or Cayenne, and another 13.5k were Taycan or Panamera. I doubt these buyers are tracking their cars.
