Oh, and tires

My my23 Z came with Continental Sport Contact 6 tires. There is very little tread depth. They look like great track tires, not what I wanted. I don’t expect to get a lot of miles out of them. The ride quality is good, they seem to be pretty quiet and are smooth riding. I will definitely replace with AS treads.

For what its worth back in the day of brick hard run flats I sold a number of sets of factory fresh tires. Shipping tires cross country is not cheap.

Best is to get intouch with local BMW clubs.

I'm not trading tires. When these wear out I will buy new Michelins.

What does the M40i come with, usually a couple of lottery options. I’m hoping MPS4S or the newer 5 equiv.

Most performance BMWs come with either Contis or Mich. it’s just pot luck and I was wondering if the same of the Z4 M40i.

Just picked up my 2022 M40i first week of Jan, came with Michelin PSS. I thought that was the oem tire.

Is it possible that they changed from the Michelin Pilot SS to the Continental Sport Contact 6 for the 2023's?

That appears to be the case, unless someone with a ‘23 has something else. I’m not complaining, my tires seem just fine. But, as I said I’ll replace with Michelin AS’s.

For what it’s worth, every one on Autotrader that has actual pictures posted has the Contis.

Aside from the fact that it is a much lower rated tire overall the issue I would have with the Continental Sport Contact 6 tire is the thread wear. Go on Tire Rack and read the reviews and do a comparison in that category with the Michelin (Star BMW) Pilot SS and the Michelin (Star BMW) Pilot 4s.

So far I haven’t seen options. Time will tell.

What size are your tires? The tech specs on BMW’s website say they are 40 series, but tirerack (and every other place I’ve seen) says that 35 are factory.

Yeah, I just double checked. The specs on BMW’s website are for the standard 18 nice wheels. That’s my fault. Thanks for confirming.

Conti tires are junk. With spirited driving, 6k miles at the most before you're at 1/8".
For the first time (my 11th BMW), I got Mich tires. Couldn't be happier.

I wonder if there is a way for one to specify on the order that you want Michelin Pilot SS when you order the car with 19" wheels?

I have never heard of anyone being able to specify tire brand on a new car order.

If there was a way to specify the tire brand then BMWGirlFL would know how to do it!
