Opinion Wanted - Brake color

Hi all,

I've been stalking this forum for a few months, but I think I'm ready to move forward with the Z4, as a have a few offers to buy me out of my M340i lease and we've taken care of ordering a new car for my wife too!

After a bunch of back in forth on colors and such, I think I am leaning towards San Francisco Red, Moonlight, Ivory Interior and the 799M Double-spoke Orbit Grey wheels. Question is, what color brakes would you go with this combination? I feel like the red might be too much with the red exterior, but does the blue seem out of place since there's nothing else on the car that's blue? If you have SFR and could throw up a pic or two, I'd appreciate it!

If I were to spec out a car with SFR/ Ivory, it would have the Shadowline trim, Moonlight top, black wheels and red calipers.

Whether it is your combination or mine I don’t think that the blue calipers would look right.

Thank you. Should have mentioned I am going with the Shadowline trim as well. As far as the wheels, I am just not a fan of black ones. I feel like they just got "lost" with the tires also being black. I've seen the Orbit Grey ones in person, and really like them.

Oh I've seen them in person and I also realize they are crazy popular as so many dealer-ordered cars seem to have them, just not my particular jam. Not trying to knock anyone else's preferences.

Edit: BTW, bonus points for aligning your center caps with the M logos on the wheels.

That was how they installed the center caps at the factory. 👍🏻

Ahh, you got someone who knew what they were doing? Mine were all out of sorts and I had to fix them when I got the car

Westside Guy , one more question since you're super knowledge. For the interior trim, is it only on the area surrounding the shifter?

No, go to BMW’s website “build your own” section and play with the interior trim selection and you will see where it is installed.

That's what I am doing, but as far as I can tell it's the center console/shift area.

I just double checked and you are correct. I always thought that it appeared elsewhere and not just on the center console shift area. Double check with your salesperson on this point.

You could also look on the BMW site’s CPO cars with pictures of the actual interiors of the Z4’s being offered.

Thank you. I was actually just doing that. Looks like it's just the on the center console area.

Also did the same thing for the brake color actually. Seems to be about a 50/50 split of SFR cars with red brakes and blue brakes.

Great minds think alike!

I only wanted the high gloss black trim so I never really looked at the other options. I assumed that whatever trim was selected would appear on more than just the center console

Yeah. In my current car it's just on the center console area (same as the Z4) and a thin strip running along the dash on the passenger side.

I have the Aluminum Tetragon currently and like it, but am leaning towards the Aluminum Mesh for something different.

It is too bad that they didn't offer a carbon interior trim for the console and the steering wheel like they do on the M cars.

By the way, if you select the hi gloss black trim you can get PPF precuts from Xpel to protect it from micro scratches.

Thanks. I'm unsure on the black trim because I feel like it's a fingerprint/dust magnet. Maybe the PPF helps that.

Yes it is only on the center trim. That is why went gloss black because it already has a silver aluminum trim around the center console and steering wheel. I didn’t want two different metal accents. Also, the air vents are always in gloss black.

Cool, thank you. That makes sense, as far as the contrasting metals. Something to think about.

There are pros and cons to all the trim. I believe you won’t notice after a while, anyway, if you make the ‘wrong’ choice.
