Traction?

I’m very disappointed in the lack of traction from a roll. Two times in the last couple days I have accelerated hard in Sport Plus to break the tires loose to the point that I hit the rev limiter and TC kicked in. Is that normal or could it be the Conti tires?

What was the ambient temp and for how long were you driving the car before you got hard on the gas?

It was around 80 and it was near the of 25 mile drive. I have owned many more powerful cars and the only one that reacted anywhere close to this was my C7 Vette. My 911 just accelerated without a spin, I know it’s RWD but I’m surprised in the lack of control I experienced. It actually scared my wife and she’s been around for a long time.

Just another comment. I can’t imagine this car with a true “M” engine, over 500 hp would be a hand full, when it finally hooked up it felt very quick

Thanks for your reply, but I don’t see a Z4 M40i listed in your drives. If you own one I’m sorry for my response. I’m really looking for someone with experience.

Cool ambient and tire temps with 30i and PS4S, say 55ish ambient, or below, and straight line pedal to floor accel will often cause TC to activate for me. Not the same as 40i and 80's . . .i know.

I guess i just didn’t expect it to be so responsive. By the way, I’m not a rookie. Thanks for the response.

No but I’ve driven rwd bmw and since you purposefully turned it into sport plus the whole reason it exists is to let the rear wander so then I’m confused why you are confused. If you don’t want to modulate your right foot then keep it in sport.

True for any high hp front engine rwd car z4 or not.

Didn’t mean offense and my post probably was snarky but my point was you asked for it to be playful in the rear so why complain? The 911 with all the weight over the rear wheels is a different beast

Thanks for that. I never knew that the reason for Sport Plus was “to let the rear wander”. The car I had before the Z was 524 hp 553 # torque M850i, it didn’t respond the way this one does. I realize the difference in size and weight. Anyone else have an opinion about my original post?

I have about 800 miles, you’re not going to tell me to take it easy on my new car are you? 🤔

The major function of sport plus is to decrease the TC and let you drift the rear. I’ve driven the 8 but not aggressively so can’t comment on how it’s programmed but I would imagine the z4 is more dialed in for rear drift given it’s position as a sports vs GT car.

If you do a PC delivery they take you on a wet skid pad and let you see the difference in modes - sport plus still has some control vs turning it all off but enough to make you responsible for your own safety for sure.

Edit: I just looked it up as I was interested in the differences. Apparently sport plus completely turns off Dynamic stability control.
Cheers

Might've said tires maybe too new if less. Finding it otherwise FUN and the change you wanted from the 8er?

Traction is poor in the best of times with a hard WOT hit. Just gets worse in the winter.

You need to roll into the throttle not slap it down.

I'm not familiar with the Conti tires but my Pilot Super Sports are amazing. I traded in a 2019 Mustang GT (460hp) and I have owned a 911, Supra turbo, S2000 and others and my M40i has best traction by far. I actually wish it was a little looser. I do notice that the traction is very "surface sensitive" though. All my other sports cars were manuals so that needs to be taken into consideration but I think stickier tires would help.

If you need stable, keep it in Sport mode.
Sport + has less Traction control & for more rear end movement, good for drift but not for stright line acceration.
